    Repotting plants!

Unfortunately, most potting soils have some perlite or other amendments in them. That’s ok as long as there’s no chemicals. Cover the soil with some large stones to prevent accidental ingestion.

    Giant poop???

Oh no! That’s not good. Perlite can cause impaction as well as possibly the dirt. You’ll need to cover the dirt in his plant pots with round flat stones so he can’t get into it. You also should get a husbandry check done to see why he’s doing this. what supplements are you using?

    Why’s my baby chameleon digging?

thank you for the tips. 😊 I have her home mostly done now and she is moved over. I only need to add a couple of her favorite sticks that she had in her old place but I'm waiting for her to go to sleep. I think I'm doing everything right.. I hope! I agree about the soil. TOO much bark, and I...

I might’ve slightly overestimated on sticks.

Yeah I actually mixed 3 different types. Dirt stuff with stuff, orchid bark, and some sort of volcanic rock stuff. I dunno. Apparently it is good to have other junk in there so they breathe or something. I dunno. I do much better with chams then plants. :hilarious: Maybe never ask me for plant...

    Why’s my baby chameleon digging?

...too lite and will go right down the gullet if a cricket hops on one. So I sift the top soil of all my plants. No chips, bark, small rocks, or perlite allowed. A colander works well to sift dry soil.! If you have vinyl on two sides, sunlight from a window won’t help your plants and you will...

    New chameleon grandma with questions!

...Keep the basking light perch away from the plant lights. Also whatever his tongue hits may end up down the gullet. So make sure there is no perlite or small rocks on top of the soil of your plants. I actually sift my top soil. And change it every year. Part of my spring cleaning. Crazy I...

    What are these things?!

...What looks like miniature earthworms. But this is the biggest one I’ve found. Also, added bonus is the dirty whitish oval thing is not perlite. I squeezed several to check and they give a tiny wet pop. Real perlite is coarse and does not do that. Just an extra pic of the tiny worms to fuel...

Chameleons eating stuff in flower pot help!

...soil cause they put all kinds of stuff in organic and other soil like bark whivh is light weight and go right down the gullet. I think the perlite looks like wax worms or grubs so that may be the reason. Sifting the soil worked good cause he likes to hunt crickets in the plants. I always...

URI suspected. Exotic vet not available on weekends. None of the emergency vets will see my Cham. Please help.

I just use washed play sand. It’s hard to find a good organic soil that doesn’t have perlite in it. I think all potting soils contain perlite or a similar thing. However, organic garden soil does not have perlite but usually does have small bits of shredded bark. I will say that 11” deep will...

To pot or not to pot that is the question

I’m glad to hear the cheese plant is a favourite of yours, I have bought one, not particularly big at the minute but should grow well with the jungle dawn light I plan to get, plus I’ve bought a lot of other things to go in, sound advice on checking for perlite etc, thank you

    Giant poop???

So on further inspection I wanted to see if there was anything in it this boob has been eating the dirt and perlite out of his plant pots!!!!

    Quick question on eggs.

Yea that’s about how the mix is. Should I take off the perlite layer? Everything else is the same. I’ll lower the heat a bit but temp fluctuates here so I want it constant in the incubator. Thanks
