Wanted to get some opinions on my enclosure/husbandry

I’d take that perlite out of the substrate. The Cham will get curious seeing isopods. And might eat one or go chasing food down there. And It might miss and ingest perlite which also floats to the top of the soil. And will cause impaction. You should also get more leaf litter for the bottom...

Wanted to get some opinions on my enclosure/husbandry

...I'll look into getting the Arcadia UVB lights, adding more cover, and making sure the basking temp is closer to 80 It's actually not perlite, but rather river stones. However - you're right that they could get ingested. I will remove as many as I can. Ah, I've been keeping and collecting...

    Potting soil-what to use?

...eat things that are in the potting soil. Even with organic potting soil - I could not find soil without branch shavings, vermiculite and perlite. I covered all of my plants with fine mesh to keep the little mucher out. He frequently eats Pothos and Money Tree leaves. He would eat the stuff...

    Egg laying

I could only find perlite. The place that I get my vermiculite is closed. Is that ok to use? If so I’ll start digging up the eggs and placing them

You’re younger than my kids! Did you get the vermiculite or perlite and dig up the eggs?

    Almost done!

...Get some largeish smooth river rock (like from the craft store. Dollar tree usually has some) to cover your dirt. At least like 1.5 inches big. The styrofoam or perlite in the dirt is not good if they ingest it. And trust me, veileds will eat anything. Mine munches dirt if I don’t cover it 😅

    Organic Potting Soil Question

I've had him for 4 months, I haven't seen him eat leaves or seen missing bits so far. I'll check if it has the perlite. Would it be ok if I put mesh screen over the soil and secure it with the rocks?

    Egg laying

I dug up the eggs and marked them before removing them. Cleaned off all the sand and placed them in perlite. She laid 9 eggs that weigh 9.6 grams.

    Egg laying

I’ve never used perlite but many have so I’ll leave it to them to tell you how to set it up. (I started with vermiculite and just kept using it because it worked.) I hope that was all the eggs. It’s always easy to know for sure.

    New friend

...This is why I always sift the top two to three inches of soil on each plant. It allows straight dirt as top soil with no wood chips, stones, perlite, etc. I have been in the habit of replacing top soil in all my plants every spring so this was an easy step to add for the cage plants. A...

HELP! On cameras I can see Chameleon eating dirt while im in class!!!

So as long as the dirt is 100% organic and has no added stuff (chemicals, perlite), you should be fine. My guy does it and so do plenty of other chams.

    Potting soil-what to use?

...a ton of plants. The blue bag is better for flowering plants. The pink bag is better for something like a chameleon cage. It doesn't use perlite (white balls) but rather coco coir to help with soil drainage. Adding coco coir or sphagnum moss to any terrarium/vivarium soil is a good idea to...

Looking into some plants. Are any of the listed plants toxic? Experience with them in a chameleon cage?

...break when climbed on and large leaves to hide under and drink on top of. They are very hardy too. Make sure your top soil does not have any perlite in it as it can cause digestive issues when swallowed. Also make sure you clean the plants well as spider bites can harm your guy too as well as...

Wanted to get some opinions on my enclosure/husbandry

I keep Hoyas in my girls enclosure and they do very well. Though mine aren’t nearly as big and beautiful as yours is. She’s not as excited to eat them, pothos is her absolute favorite, but I love how the Hoyas look. (I just bought two more to put in my newest enclosure too)

Chameleons eating stuff in flower pot help!

Its Perlite meant for water retention. While not toxic, its not very good either. Just put big rocks on top of the soil.

A few questions from a new veiled chameleon owner

...to hide and if your Cham shots his tongue out is there anything dangerous that will go down his gullet with the feeder like rocks, pebbles, perlite, wood chips. Sifting top soil is what I try to do. A good life plant is monestra. It’s hearty and the stalks hold up under the weight with large...
