Using a planter box for substrate in a screen cage

I have a butterfly cage on top of a planter box that I drilled a hole in the side to allow for drainage for my outdoor cage and I have a fabric planter in my indoor cage but that has only been setup a few months, I like it so far but time will tell. I’ll attach a couple pics. You may like some...

    Cabinet Review

This cabinet appears to have a trapezoidal footprint, and the 40" is across the back (widest part). If the front is 32" across, then you still have (essentially) a 36 x 22 horizontal space. (y) Lighting is going to be a challenge, but with planning, can be done. Plants that require full sun...

    More bioactive questions

Oh dear! I’m hoping it works out. If not then I’ll have to figure something else out. I was going to make planter boxes to sit my enclosures on but I’m afraid of using my circular saw...just know I’ll lose at least one finger if I try. If the bags don’t work well, guess maybe I’ll have to invest...

    New vivarium questions

...Breeze bioactive. Some have built a wooden planter-type box and water-proofed it, setting the enclosure on top. I’m going to try the bioactive bags from the bio dude (I’m not handy enough to build planter boxes). Most use Great Stuff pond & stone expanding foam, which is water-proof and safe...

Is it good to have substrate

Didn't even realize it was biodude... oh god that guy lol. I used to defend him back in the day too. He's more or less a con artist from everything I've heard from the frog and bioactive communities.

Using a planter box for substrate in a screen cage

I'm most likely going to approach it with this method, I plan on building the planter with my brother sometime next week, and I'll look into lining it with bio basin to keep it from leaking. I'll post some updates with pictures if anyone's interested.

    Details, details, details

Hey all. I know there’s a million and one threads on foaming backgrounds into a Repti Breeze, but there’s a couple of details that elude me. Do I assemble the enclosure, attach the egg crate light diffuser panels and then foam over it? Is it easier to foam the enclosure panels unassembled...

Creating a soil bottom in a screen terrarium

So I am in the process of getting everything together per the blog you posted. And I will be making my own soil based on the four parts they outlined. However, I am having trouble understanding how well the window screen option works as a barrier since one part of the soil being used is...

    More bioactive questions

I was orginally going to make a planter box for my enclosure to sit on as well, I found some 24 x 24 planters on The Home Depot's website, so I'm going to try one of those first. They are a bit pricey, but pretty. If it works it will save me time and be pleasing to the eye. It also helped...

    Enclosure not draining?

What substrate are you using? And what are you using for the drainage layer? There are two scenarios: 1) You are overwatering the system so the drainage layer filled up and is now spilling into the soil. If this is the case, you need to cut back on watering significantly. The soil can go...

The liquid flex seal is a great alternative to silicone. Way easier to spread out with a paint brush, and does not tack over as fast.

    Bioactive questions

This one? Honestly I wouldn't recommend that kit regardless of the price! It's a woodchippy-substrate, which isn't great for chameleon safety. Loose sphagnum moss shouldn't be used in a chameleon enclosure at all, and his "bio-shot" is just a 4-4-4 fertilizer with a mycorrhizal fungus (which is...

    Machakos hills Jackson Eye problem

Hey all, I posted a while back about a young Machakos hills Jackson I got back in December. He's around 8-9 months old now (they gave me a really rough date on his exact age when i got him), and still has a persisting eye issue that Im working with a local vet to try and fix. Lets run through...

    NEED ADVICE ABOUT SETUP- 2020

We have a bioactive set up but are new to it and know it is somewhat controversial. Used a dragon stand with our first cham and I just couldn't keep up with cleaning the drainage tray. For our current set up, we used a grow bag similar to what is pictured below from the biodude. We have a 36"...
