    Pitcher Plant in Veiled Enclosure

...Common examples of acids and bases (scroll down) My panther wasn't interested in the plant at all except as another vine to climb on. Pitcher plants are nice because they can be hung. I've tried Venus Flytraps & Sundews as well, but they don't hang well, and need to be in very wet soil...

Thanks. I’ll do that! It’s really spectacular. Got a tropical pitcher plant at the same (local) garden centre about 4 weeks ago and it has tripled in size in the enclosure I set up for my baby panther coming when the weather permits. Then I saw that Bill’s plant list was updated and cautions...

...them? I’m not sure what and that could spell a few other issues replacing the soil is also an option but it throws away the progress the clean up crew made in reproducing and that’s a lot especially for a parsons sized enclosure that’s tough another option are carnivorous plants like pitcher...

...they were a common thing with bioactive enclosures prior to actually setting it up and more of a nuisance than anything else. Hence the pitcher plants, in the sixish months of the enclosure has been setup, the fungus gnat population has been almost completely wiped out by the springtails...

Mine weren't producing pitchers previously as during the quarantining period, I did not give it the right conditions to do such. It formed a few small pitchers that lacked the lids, but since being in the bioactive enclosure, it has started to produce larger, fully formed pitchers and, as seen...

One step ahead of you! I used the excess clay balls from my drainage layer in the pots of all the plants to ensure proper drainage, as very few plants like wet feet. I will be grabbing a pic of the newest pitcher today.

    Quick Question

...have large enough established populations that I can start to sell off excess. I also have managed to get some cuttings from a tropical pitcher plant to root. I was not expecting my bioactive enclosure to be this successful hence the backup cleanup crew enclosure and now I'm stuck with a...

So I'm trying to ID the pitcher plants I got, I'll post pictures later. I now have two fully formed pitchers, one is slightly smaller and all green, the other is larger and red colored. I know the genus, but I would like to know the species.

    Pitcher Plant in Veiled Enclosure

thank you so much! it is a nepenthes alata, i love it so much and was really hoping i could put it in there without me being paranoid 24/7. i’ve been doing a lot of research before and after i got it, i have it in front of my window that gets direct sunlight for most of the day and is doing...

Carnivorous plants in habitat - good or bad?

Oops.... just thought of something: since it's bioactive that means I have springtails and isopods down there. Do you think they will be attracted to the pitcher plant and it will wipe out my bioactive critters?

Garden centre in the city, didn't have the species. These are all the pitchers that the plant has produced with the red one being the newest. The red one has opened uo since and is larger than the fully formed green pitcher.

Most likely it is n. ventrata (ventricosa x alata) due to the pitchers being green at least at the bottom. Other candidates being its parents, n alata, although pitchers normally speckled, and n ventricosa, with pitchers staying mostly red. The good news is all three are easy to grow and...

Carnivorous plants in habitat - good or bad?

You have a Veiled so putting anything in there that is not Veiled tested is not recommended due to them eating their plants. Pitcher plants have been used with other species of cham but only when chams are big enough not to fall in. Most Veiled keepers will keep carnivorous plants in the room...

My tree raptor got me today

Thank you!! 😁 Lots of trial and error but I'm down to three plants - umbrella, pothos, and pitcher. That seems to be enough to give him space to hide and space to roam.

    Pitcher plants

...great info on them in this podcast https://chameleonacademy.com/ep-160-nepenthes-tropical-pitcher-plants-with-jeremiah-harris/ The conditions needed for panther and Vieled enclosures matches what nepenthes need well. Use distilled water on them. Don't mix big pitcher plants with baby chameleons.
