Very interesting info you've gathered.
Thanks so much for sharing it.
Terrestrial snails would seem to be a great choice, particularly for Jackson's who will very enthusiastically eat them shell and all.
I'm not sure I would feed wild caught snails, despite reading elsewhere that one cham...
Welcome to the forums!
It's always good to see new cham owners asking questions.
It looks like you are off to a good start.
For such a young cham, his basking temps should be about 5 fahrenheit degrees lower.
It's important to allow the enclosure to dry out between mistings to prevent...
A sad fact is that young chams are cheaper because not all of every clutch is going to make it to adulthood, as well as the fact that the longer a cham is cared for, the more has been spent on caring for it.
Babies are always worrisome, since they are less able to tolerate any husbandry...
That is wise advice.
You will save money by buying a juvenile, rather than a baby and a juvenile will be hardier than a baby.
It would be good to buy from a reputable breeder, since you will then be getting a captive bred chameleon, which will likely be healthier than a wild caught chameleon...
Too bad you didn't post sooner than less than a day before you leave.
Your cham needs to have water while you are away.
All creatures die sooner from lack of water than from lack of food.
You could have ordered an ExoTerra Monsoon Mister from Amazon or elsewhere so she would at least have...
In addition to the good advice you've already been given, I would add that, no, you should not try to remove any shedding skin.
The skin beneath has to be ready to come off and pulling on it may injure the new skin.
It is normal for chams to lose their appetite for a day or two before...
Was this the same vet?
I thought you were going to a different vet.
Post your location if you want others to recommend someone in your area, if they know of a good cham vet near you.
I think Cleo will do well in your care, as you want to learn as much as possible to help her to be strong and healthy.
One thing you may not realize is that the UVB bulb must be replaced every 6 months.
The bulb will still light and look OK to our eyes because we can't see the decreasing...
It was very kind of you to take on the care of your brother's cham.
If you can find a vet who has at least treated some chameleons and regularly treats other types of reptiles, you should be OK.
Forum members can often direct you to a good cham vet in your area, if you specify the area.
If...
Kudos to you!
You're on the right track with things for sure!
As for the temporal gland infections, I agree that nutritional deficiencies can cause infections and other problems but I think that we shouldn't discount the fact that secretory glands can and will get clogged (think acne, for...
The absolute best way to avoid nutritional deficiencies is to feed the feeders a nutritious diet, supplement on a recommended schedule (see Resources tab for species caresheets with supplement info) and to make sure that your chameleon has all that he physically and psychologically needs...
Others may think it odd but you're amongst friends here :)
Those same people will think it is strange that you even care about a reptile.
Don't worry, here we all love our "babies".
In my household, we talk about the chams every day.
Heck, we even talk to them at times.
Strange? Who...
Even the Calcium Plus LoD is far too much vitamin D and vitamin A if used daily.
Plain calcium without any vitamins is the recommended powder for daily use.
Repashy Calcium plus LoD is actually a multivitamin/mineral supplement.
The LoD is fine for every other week, and maybe even for...
Daytime sleeping is a very bad sign and means he is sick.
A trip to a vet who is experienced with chams would be your best chance of saving him.
The sooner he can be seen, the better.
Chams conceal all signs of illness until they are much too sick to be able to hide their symptoms.
Daytime...
At the very least, the vet should be consulted and he/she will most likely change meds, since it appears that the Baytril is not helping.
I've had better success when the eye is involved by using antibiotic eyedrops, in addition to an oral or injectable antibiotic.
For temporal gland...
Important supplement issue
I don't know how long you have been supplementing her daily with Repashy calcium plus but, it is a very bad idea to use it daily for a chameleon.
The reason is that it's a multivitamin, which should be used 2x a month for a Panther, rather than the daily plain calcium...
Congrats on the babies!
Josh's Frogs is my favorite source for Hydei fruit flies since they can be sent overnight in an emergency and are shipped the same day if the order gets in before 4 eastern time.
Glad your momma cham waited for your return before presenting her surprise!
