I don't have any now but I was thinking about it down the road, I have a glass enclosure that is 18x18x24, I don't think that would be big enough for two males, and I wont house two males together if it is not good for them, I just didn't know about pygmies since a male can be housed with females...
well chams are pretty much deaf so your son being loud wouldn't wake him, unless he shook the cage, i've read they feel vibrations real easy in their plants,
you should set your lights on a timer, that way you don't have to worry about turning them off at the exact time every night, it is...
are these plants hard to keep alive and do you have to do extra work to keep them alive besides just the normal misting of the cham cage and a drip system? also, how do the lights affect the plant? i know they need a lot of light... my cage is now big enough to house a plant so i was wondering...
haha, this forum consists of some funny topics, i think poo makes it funny, plus, it is easier and faster to type, and I am 22 and still in college...you could also use BM? that's even faster to type. hahaha
thanks, ya I'm pretty happy with how it turned it considering I tried to built it myself and failed two times...ya once he gets full grown, he is about 8 months old now, I am going to have a huge cage built for him, but that won't be for a while...
Ya, I was given the exoterra glass cage as a gift but knew it was not good for him so I had the screened in cage part built (by my dad, he is very crafty) to place on top of it, it works out awesome because his humidity levels stay high and there is good ventilation for him, he loves it!
well after searching through other forums, it seems like most people use polyurethane and I was wondering if this has caused any problems for the chams?
the wood on your cham cage? I know there are a lot of people on this forum who have built there own wood cages, and I was wondering what you use to protect the wood from rotting? I have polyurethane but wanted to make sure this will be safe once it dries.
make sure you switch out the soil with natural soil or something like that so there are no fertilizer balls in it, also, place rocks on top of the soil to cover it in case your cham were to try and eat the soil...it could lead to impaction. and I am not sure about that type of plant, I'm sure...
hmm..ok, well then what is the best type of screen to use? Something in between metal mesh and fiber glass mesh?
Since fiberglass mesh does no stand up to heat will it be ok just for the sides of the cage? i will be using metal screen for the top where the lights will be on.
That should be fine, I guess it also depends on how big your cham is full grown and males tend to be bigger than females. I would definately say 18x18x36 would be the minimum amount of space that would be adequate for a cham...maybe other people on the forum could give their opinion on this...
Is there a problem with using fiberglass mesh (yano like screen door mesh)? I found a website that says it is not recommended..but it does not say why? I'm adding on to my cage and I was going to use it because it is softer than other mesh I have found, the top of my cage is screened in by metal...
