3rd fried housebulb - basking light...

If you end up needing another fixture/hood lamp, go to home depot or lowes. A LOT cheaper than the pet store brands. Look at the fixture and see what wattage its rated for. 60 is pretty low but its possible it has a low rating and it cant handle the bulbs.

Baby chameleon and ficus tree problems

If the light is an incandescent (basking) or UVB bulb, those wont do anything for the ficus. You need a compact florescent light and/or some sunlight through a window.

Where should I buy feeder bugs?

There are a lot of options on the classified section of this website. There are a lot of rip-offs for dubias out there. Theres a guy that advertises a mixed bag of 100 varies sizes for 20 bucks. Great deal, got my colony started pretty good on a budget. If you plan to feed heavily off of the...

Please help me add some variety to diet

My veiled loves blue bottle flies. Pop them in the fridge for an hour before you open their cage and they're rendered flightless. Once they warm up in the cage, they take off and the cham hunts them down

    Can someone tell my husband....

I had some blue bottles escape this weekend. My fiance is far from pleased. The dubia's live in the garage in a tall bucket, so she doesn't mind them. This is the last time I'll get blue bottles for a while though, and I'll keep it quiet the next time I do...

    feeding my baby yemen..

My cup is .99 from walmart and is a good size for chameleons of all ages. The ladder you see is made from hardware cloth from home depot. This particular cloth has a rubber coating. Make sure any edges are cut smooth. The ladder is an inch from the bottom, and I've never had a feeder escape...

Blue Bottle Flies on Chameleon's Poop

She pooped after I put in about already gut-loaded blue bottle flies and they're all over it like...well...flies on poop. Should I be worried, or will she be fine when she eats them?

What wild caught food is toxic?

I'm deathly allergic to bees. The idea of trying to pin one and remove its stinger is terrifying. I would take a great deal of pleasure in feeding off stinger-less wasps. I hate them with a passion.

What's the trick to feeding my baby veiled?

Dont kill the crickets, Chameleons eat live bugs and typically wont go after anything that isnt moving Blue Bottle Flies are great for breaking hunger-strikes. They can't resist them. Order some pupae, when they hatch put them in the fridge for a few minutes so they get stunned. Pop them in...

    Carolina Locusts

I wouldn't feed any you caught from outside. Parasites/pestacides are a risk with outdoor bugs, especially something thats going to bother a farm crop like locusts. I'd breed them and feed off the babies.

    Super Worms

Can't they hurt the chameleon from the inside? Those little suckers can bite

    Looking to switch it up

My female veiled is 5 months old and has crickets, dubias, blue bottle flies, mantises, wax worms, and has tried mealworms but wasn't crazy about them. As has been said, diversity is key. Mantises are a pain to gutload and are heart-breaking to feed, so after this batch I'm done with them...

    Attempting to build a cage...again.

I built two large cages (24" x 24" x 48" and 18" x 24" x 48") using pine 1" x 2"s. I used the fiberglass/charcoal door/window screening from home depot. Lots of sanding/polyurethane and some assembly required but they're beautiful cages. Will post pics soon. One I built into a table, the other...

    Best wood for chameleon cage

Depends what "quickly" means to you. Have you ever seen an unstained/unprotected deck after a year? And it doesn't rain nearly as much as we mist. The problem if your chameleon is already moved in is that when you sand, stain, wait 24 hours, sand, stain again, wait 24 hours, polyurethane, wait...

    Best wood for chameleon cage

I used pine 1" x 2" s. The type of wood is unimportant in my opinion, its all aesthetics. Pine is cheap and you have to put so much polyurethane on the cage to make it water-proof that you can't tell what it is once it's done anyway.

How long to gut-load Blue Bottles

How long should I gutload blue bottle flies for? About how long do the pupae take to hatch out in room temperature? Thanks!

    What to feed baby mantises?

I fed off all but 2 from each case. Putting them in individual deli cups with pantyhose over the top instead of screen. Fruit flies, consider yourselves trapped/hunted/dead.

    My dudes cage is empty!!!!

One thing to note is your lighting situation. You'll need plenty of light for a hibiscus, while a porthos is really hard to kill. Ficus can be fickle, but you'll know its time to remove when they start dropping leaves en mass.
