Pictures are moving up to the top of the list very quickly. Just cleaned out the roach bin, and cleaned all the cham cages and crested gecko cages. Phew! A lot of work. Had Green Bean outside for about an hour today and saw some nice colors. As soon as I find the cords for the camera I will...
Hey,
This question is for anyone that keeps/has kept carpet chameleons (Furcifer Lateralis) or for anyone that knows of an article that has some good info.
What is a good/average adult weight for a male? Also for a Female?
The search tool gave me no results.
Thanks.
I agree, a crested gecko would be good too. I have three, and they are so much fun to watch at night. All of mine eat crickets from my hand, and they look so awesome. They are also a lot easier to care for than chameleons (no special lighting, heating). They were also a lot less stressful...
If you just have to guess for the first order, I would say small would be better than big. If you buy crickets too large, your chameleon may find them intimidating; whereas, if you buy smaller crickets, he will just have to eat more.:)
I am so jealous, that is a good find! It looks perfect! As posted above, you could use peg board as a divider, which would allow for some air flow, and it would make it easier to attach vines and other stuff inside the cage. Are those bug stickers? Your cham might be fooled into thinking its a...
Also, if I remember correctly, red-eyed tree frogs are nocturnal. Chameleons are diurnal. Neither of them should have to be put through the stress of waking up in the middle of the day/night because their tank-mate is running around. So that is a no, keep them separate.
Yeah, definitely more plants. What chameleon is going in the cage? I would recommend getting a good digital thermo/hygrometer and ditch the analog ones you have. If you stick with the analogs, i would put one at the top and one at the bottom, to measure basking (top) and ambient (bottom)...
I have never heard of or seen the Zoo Med incubator before. Thanks for posting it.
I see where it says there is a heating element, but it also says "Temperature control range from 59°F to 104°F (15°C to 40°C)." Doesn't that mean it can also cool to 59 degrees, or am I interpreting this wrong...
Sorry, my mistake. Last elimination meaning the last poo? Why does it turn orange? Can the urate be used as an accurate determination of the hydration of your chameleon then? Is there a better way to tell?
Ha, sorry for all the questions.
Yeah, you could increase the bulb wattage, or lower the bulb a little closer to the basking spot. What is the temperature at the bottom of the cage?
Congratulations on getting your chameleon, and good luck with him!
