    Illness transfer

I suppose the list could be long, I am only looking for high liklehood, heavy hitters. If I have a cold, could I give it to my cham? Could my cham get sick from other sick animals (non-reptile, non-amphibian), like a dog or a cat? What about parasites? If my cham had some illness or...

New Chameleon Owner having problems already

Chameleons cant feel the heat... ... so they can burn themselves. They will be attracted to just the right amount of heat to make them able to move around, but the animal lacks a mechanism for knowing when its skin temp is too high. You can use any regular old lightbulb to provide that...

    Zippy is home...

More changes to come I origionaly set him up in the livingroom, but I have had trouble maintaining humidity. Now I think there may just be too much activity and movement in the livingroom. Im gonna move the whole set up to a spare room. It will be smaller and I can do a better job of...

New Chameleon Owner having problems already

One thing at a time. Reduce the temps. 1) get a repti-sun 5.0 18" bulb in a 20" fixture. This bulb does not put out any heat. It is a UVB bulb. Your cham needs this to process calcium. 2a) move that heat lamp away, maybe even just turn it off for a few hours. It should be off at...

    Zippy is home...

Basking temp is 78F I brought him home a couple (3) hours before his lights were scheduled to go out (8PM). I think he will aclimate after a day of just hanging out with the basking and UVB lights. I wanted to cup feed, but the crickets are hard to get ahold of and they keep jumping out of...

    Zippy is home...

He seems very cautious, mostly staying put and not moving around much. When I first got him home, he was almost black and green, but now he is more of a brownish red, and sandy color. The brownish red is like a dry brick. He hasnt eaten yet, that I know of, but its only been about an...

    Making new setup

Breeze What is the 1" green plastic mesh for? Its a little weird, but growing on me. I have a question about monthly cleaning. As I wired all of my different vines and greenery into place I could not escape the thought that in a month I will be taking all of that apart for the...

    uvb lamps and screened cages

No heat issues I was able to put my hand right on the screen at the top of the cage with no problems at all. It actualy seemed cool to the touch. Intuitively, it seems like that Repti-sun 5.0 would be hot, but it wasnt at all. :D:)

    uvb lamps and screened cages

I just got my Repti-sun 5.0 tonight. No chameleon yet, but i got all the stuff. Zippie comes home on Saturday. :D I am wondering about putting the UVB bulb on top of the cage because of the thermal heat and UVB intensity at near contact with the bulb that is sheilded only by a quarter...

rest in peace little guy :(

Im a little surprised.. ..its just a little bug-eating lizard, but Im feeling sad about it. I truely am sorry that your little guy didnt make it. Whenever something goes wrong, my first reaction is to attempt to learn the cause. I am always interested in fixing a causative issue in order...

    Stress, what to look for

I haven't got my little guy yet, but the clock is ticking. I read a thread about a cham biting and attacking something in its cage and how the cham mellowed after the stick was removed. What does a stressed cham look like as compared to the same cham in a relaxed state. That post...

    collard greens question

Hoo-da thunk-it ?? I thought chams only ate insects, but occasionaly ate Hibiscus flowers. When you feed grapes do you have to peel them? Its a tortis thing, but I wonder if a cham could get impacted from the grape peel. I suppose that if hard cricket legs and other parts dont plug em...

    Simple supliment schedule

I am within a couple weeks of bringing home a 6 month old Male Panther Ambilobe chameleon. I plan to mostly feed crickets, but will probably throww in some variety in the form of other acceptable insects listed on this forum. I am not sure HOW MANY crickets to feed every day. I will...

    Good supplement schedule?

Can you be more specific? I have two different brands of non D-3 Calcium. It looks like Monday thru Thursdays he gets either the Miner-all Calcium outdoor or the Rep-cal, (non phosphor/non D-3) Calcium during weeks #1 & #3, on a daily basis. On Fridays he gets.... I wrote this...
