Undigested Blue Bottle Fly larvae in poo...

I have heard of this happening with BSFL, but not BB fly spikes. Should I be concerned? Kiwi LOVED these...she even crawled out willingly onto my hand to get to them...however, I just noticed that there was a few undigested in her poo today. Wonder if I need to poke them first? Is this just a...

Light Your Reptiles Dual 24" Fixture Basking Question

I would call light your reptiles (Todd) and ask him for his recommendation and go with that. I love my 24 inch fixture with the 12% arcadia bulb but I have a tall enclosure. You won't find better customer service than Todd. Period.

Solutions for reluctant significant others regarding insects...

"I didn't realize that keeping a chameleon would also involve a menagerie of bugs inside my house..." "You mean you want to BREED them? On purpose?!" "I just woke up to a cricket crawling on my face." "Do you have to keep worms in the fridge next to the butter?" Haha...in all seriousness...what...

Feeder colonies living and breeding within bioactive setup?

Planning to setup a completely bioactive setup for my veiled in the next month or so with substrate, isopods, springtails, and a good drainage system. Have been looking into ways to offer a greater variety of food within breaking the budget. Dubia not an option. Planning to buy some green banana...

Pics of veiled chameleons in wild?

Looking for pictures of the natural veiled chameleon habitat. I'm hoping to design my enclosure to resemble closely what the natural environment would look like. Obviously I want a basking sight, lots of plants for hiding, and a good vine network...but I'm having trouble finding...

    Just some pics

Beautiful pics! I have found your previous threads on creating this enclosure super helpful as I get ready to build my own bioactive setup. Any advice? Things you wish you would have done differently?

Just in time for the uptick in "Bio-Active" posts

This came at a perfect time for me! Been stalking the Dendro forums for ideas for ages now! I found it especially interesting that he recommended NOT using an external drainage system....hmmm, gonna have to think about that one for a bit...

    LightYourReptiles shoutout

Just wanted to give a HUGE shoutout to Todd of lightyourreptiles.com... As I've been reading and preparing to build a bioactive enclosure for my veiled, Todd has taken the time to talk to me and brainstorm ideas- even answering the phone on a Saturday from his kitchen! (Imagine my embarrassment...

How do you fit both drainage and misting system under your enclosure?

Pictures would be appreciated! Looking to buy a mistking but struggling to visualize how to fit it all in one place under my enclosure? Do you use one bin for drainage water collection and one bin to source your water for the mist? Where do you put the pump?

Is Arcadia 12% going to be strong?

I plan to create a custom background and plant it with live plants and moss. I have ordered a double fixture from lightyourreptiles.com and a jungle dome LED. I went with the 12%, but now I'm second guessing- is that going to be too strong?

    Microfauna in naturalistic enclosure?

From what I've read on the forums, all substrates are generally inappropriate for use in chameleon enclosures due to the risk of accidental ingestion and/or impaction. However, as in dart frog vivariums, microfauna such as springtails and isopods are often used as "cleanup crew" for waste and...

    Custom enclosure help

Baby Kiwi is about 12 weeks old and weighs 7 grams. I suspect that she is actually younger than 12 weeks, but the person at the local pet store (which I will not be returning to) said "eh...8 or 9 weeks" when I picked her up. She is currently housed in a small Reptibreeze that I bought on...
