I've heard and experienced bad things about walmart's store brand organic soil (earthgro?). I think I saw someone say their cham got pinworms from it but unfortunately that was after I used it. The runoff from it is disgusting regardless, and it did not drain well enough to sustain a schleffera...
I went ahead and emailed them personally (guess I was more persuasive than my friend?) and they agreed to send another batch. Hopefully these are OK. I attached a pic of what I was dealing with. The circled cricket is one that was left over from before and actually measures to 3/8 putting it...
I grouped up with some others to order from Ghann's and save on shipping costs, and my part of the order was for 1K 3/8 crickets. The crickets I received were WAY larger than they were supposed to be, about 75% of them 5/8 and the rest evenly split between 1/2 and 3/4. Now obviously this doesn't...
I've attached a picture of the cup feeder that will solve all your problems. It gives some of the enjoyment of free-range while still keeping the crickets confined.
All you need for this is aluminum screen, a small milk jug, a hot glue gun, and some clear packing tape (it's slippery so crix...
Sorry for asking a dumb question, but what kind of cham is that? It looks just a bit like a female panther but the casque and back spines are pointier. Very dinosaur-like.
You sorta answered your own question. You live in Mass., it has certain political leanings, and there are tons of interest groups there who would like nothing more than to see the herp trade shut down. It's hard to get things banned outright, so they just regulate the heck out of them.
In some...
It was just an idea, listen to others if they don't think it's a good thing to do in this situation. If he's already hydrated it prolly won't have any additional benefit. I hope he's OK, I think it's commendable to keep an amputee chameleon alive and give him a good life.
Post pics. How old is this chameleon? If he is dehydrated and not a baby, you may want to give him a warm shower. Put one of his plants in there with him on it and angle the shower so that it hits the wall near the plant (don't let the shower directly hit the chameleon). Maybe others can chime...
I keep a couple of super sturdy branches wedged between opposite sides, with tacks for even more support, then I build off of them using twisty vines to support the other branches. You can also use twisty ties on vines if you want to use those as the base you build off of.
You could also get a temp gun. The thermometer is good for monitoring ambient temp in the room but it's slow, probes get wet and become inaccurate til they dry, etc. You probably want both since it's good to always be monitoring the temp, but I'm just saying for the limited purpose of perfecting...
He's too hot prolly. Change the bulb wattage, move his branch down, or put more space between the bulb and the top of the cage. It's a balancing act because if his branch is too cool, you're just gonna find him hanging upside down from the top of the cage under the bulb, possibly still gaping if...
Glad he's ok. I think vets can sometimes handle our chams a bit different/rougher than we would since they need to be restrained and inspected. Whereas we treat them like little porcelain dolls. I think mine doesn't necessarily know me, but she knows she'll be alright when she's picked up by...
