LOL...that made me feel a bit better. My F's 'portly' is nothing,,,,,NOTHING like that! I'll get a better pic soon.
Can a cham go from juvenile to gravid coloration with no stop for 'adult' coloration? She's also very small...only 50 or so grams.
The laying bin has been altered to...
Chameleons have a lot of control over their eyes. Puffing them out may be a way to clean them. This is normal. If the eye was pushed out, closed and not going back to normal I would be concerned.

I have ongoing problems with my F veiled, and I'm reading more and more, and still learning things. From another thread I read this, which was news to me and vaguely heartening:
This is the first time I've heard anyone mention the rounded shape. I've been fretting because my F is rotund...
There are a few things that I noticed, but not knowing if the Scot's English version of my Amer English is the same, take this with a dose of salt:
Mealworms are difficult for chams to digest, not a good basic food source.
I don't know about locust. I generally feed crickets which are not...
Laying bin set up: branch access to a Rubbermaid bin planted with a philodendron.
substrate: sand/sterile soil mix, moistened well
halogen desk lamp for heat
deli cup of phoenix worms
and here is her attitude (sans the gaping and hissing that started) when she saw Mort
Good for you! Nice to know you and the cham managed this all so well. I hope when my girl's time comes I have as much success!

My most recent attempt to get Shayna well was a weekend attempt to make her a laying bin that she might use.
I put a large plastic rectangular tub of soil and sand just below the bottom access of her cage. The substrate is about 8", I planted a pot of philo at the far end, and put two...
Joy is watching both chams eating crickets. The Cham Cam is a real delight and so helpful to assuage my fears. I wasn't sure Shayna could ambulate enough to get near enough to free-ranging crickets in her cage. She nailed it, but seemed to have some problems once the cricket was internal...
Shayna went severely downhill during the beginning of January, and in my distress I went out and got Mortimer Mensch.
He is graceful, beautiful and elegant, even if he doesn't much care for my presence in his life. Over the past three weeks he's gone from stubborn brown to a rather dapper...
I use a postage scale.
It really is useful to keep track of weight over the long run
I would have sworn my small female veiled hadn't grown, but I found that she actually increased by nearly 10% since last I weighed her.

About 30 minutes after that photo was taken, Mort decided he didn't like the piebald look and went into a large scale shed. Here at our house (where the birds rule this roost) we call it molting, which slid over the linguistic barriers and became 'melting', regardless of species.
As for the...
They need the right conditions, just like the pamphlet says. I think they recommend putting the pupae in a jar in a dark place and waiting 14 days, but you'll have to try the Phoenix worm website or info on breeding black soldier fly

It took about 2 weeks, but Mort has decided he doesn't need to be terrified. It started a few days ago when I covered the cages so that the chams wouldn't be stressed by 6 hours of massive cleaning in the room. Mort cruised his cage, and when I finally peeled back the covers, he hung out and...
I have nightmares (real nightmare, not just 'worry') about forgetting an animal that's been housed in some weird unused corner of my house. That really does stop me cold from acquiring more of anything.
1.1 veiled chams Shayna Maideleh and Mortimer Mensch

Hi Roxy! welcome to the forum. Your chameleon is beautiful!
The best way to ask for advice or information is to start your own thread on the most appropriate board. There is also a sticky called 'how to ask for help' that provides a comprehensive list of things that the members here need...
