OK, so Kukui is about 8 months old now and is showing beautifffuuullll colors (thanks, LanceCham, for such a beautiful cham!). However, this morning, I noticed he is starting to shed .... again!
he shed once at the end of november, right before thanksgiving, and finished up another shed about...
Just be careful with squirting the water - too much can drown them. i find an eyedropper works best for giving water to sick chams.
Also, looks like, from the pix, that he might have a burn on his casque? I can't quite tell - my laptop is crap. Just make sure that's taken care of too, so there...
I'm betting it's the mistking. Kukui RUNS to the bottom of his cage when it goes off and will stay down there until he deems it safe. I've tried moving the nozzles, hand spraying, etc etc, but he is just a scaredy-cham when it comes to the mister. I did find something that seems to work a bit...
Congrats on the new babies! As much as everyone is hatin' on this, it seems it was a legit accident with surprisingly happy results so congrats and keep us updated (which means pictures. lots and lots of pictures).
I have a big pothos plant as the centerpiece and a bunch of smaller fake plants all around. I've found that Kukui actually prefers the fake plant branches over the real plant. He cruises on those and his "poop spot" is on the fake branches.
I just say anything I can't pronounce as if I were speaking Italian. And that's not just chameleons...but anything I can't pronounce. Japanese food? pronounce it like youre speaking Italian. Hawaiian street name? Italian, baby! Scientific name? Well, since Italian is a Latin-based language, it...
Am I the only woman here thinking to myself "one penis is enough...but two? No thanks."
In related news, my friend recently split his penis, so, technically, he also has two penises. it looks really really weird. And, to be frank, rather intimidating. I don't know how the female chams deal...
*brushes off her shoulders* Ok, let da local sista talk story fo ya.
As a local girl who is damn proud of her island home, I would never ever suggest removing wildlife - or even a shell or rock - from the islands. But that's mostly superstition on my behalf.
Besides that do NOT take...
In Hawaii, I kept my chameleons outside. Since I lived mauka, we got a lot of rain in the late afternoon and my chams LOVED it - Karma, our big male jackson's, would ONLY drink rain drops, never the stuff from the mister.
I've been having issues with my humidity as well. What i found works REAL well for me is putting a wet sponge right near my basking bulb. That way, the heat off the bulb causes a lot of humidity and every time my mister goes on, it gets the sponge wet again, so the heat has more to evaporate off...
I've never BOILED any of the fake vines or plants. I do have a double boiler which I use as a steamer though and that works fine. Kinda like the things you make spaghetti in - the b ottom pan has water and the top pan is usually a colander of some sort. I just put in about an inch of water...
I just wanted to comment and say HELL YEAH TROLLFACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I frigin love ragefaces. :p Forever alone is better though, if we want to describe chameleons. Or their owners (in some cases) lol.
Do you think that would cool off the cage too much? I had an issue when I bumped his misting up to 2 minutes with the cage dropping in temp. it had the humidity up, but the temp was dropping. Then again, this was when I had him near the window and not in between the vents.
OK, I know I may be paranoid, but please help me out here so I can go to sleep and not be freaked out.
Kukui fell asleep tonight, holding his usual branch. I checked on him about an hour ago and he managed to grab his tail like a branch in his sleep.
Now, he has NO signs of MBD, but I know...
I do recommend more supplements, since you need at least three - one that is plain calcium, one that is calcium PLUS D3, and a multivitamin. One dusting thing won't cover all his needs - it may hit one or two...but not all of them. Also, gutloading is extremely important. Whatever the crickets...
Gotta rename him Waldo...I feel like this is a giant Where's Waldo game...but with a chameleon. And I think that might've been him on the pic above. When you browse through the other pix, there isn't a similar shape in that area. if that's the case, he may be using the free range, but he's being...
OK...dumb question...
but how do I repot a hibiscus? Do I just dig it up, hope I got all the roots and put it in a new pot?
The reason I'm asking is because my current pot is actually a bit big, it seems. It fits in his cage, but it touches the sides and kinda puts tension on the screen...
ahhhh! That's frigin scary! I am terrified of black widows and brown recluses. When I was young, I had a black widow bite that had me hospitalized and to this day, I am absolutely terrified of black widows. I refuse to go into people's sheds in the summer.
But yeah, back to the gecko...we had...
