Hello there!
It is a very cute little baby you got there! :) love the pattern!
I don't think it is weird that he is leaning to one side, when basking. I have a veiled and he does it all the time - leans to one side and flattens himself out like a pancake :D they do it to increase the...
Hey there!
That's a cute little baby you got yourself! :) Congrats!
I also have a veiled and also have been wanting to get a panther for quite a while, hope to do it in near future :)
The numbers are used to indicate the amount and sex of the owned species/locales. 1.0 - means a male...
I really don't think it's a burn. As it was pointed out in the post above, it looks necrotic and might very well cause further infection, which might be internal, so you wouldn't be able to see it until it's too late.
Please, take your chameleon to the vet.
I would also advise to fill out...
Hey there!
Maybe you should fill out the https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/ form to give a better overall impression of your husbandry. It will be easier to point possible errors that might be causing problems, instead of having to ask about each thing separately.
It is a bit hard to say from these picks, but it looks like a left over shed, that has constricted the area and cut-off blood supply, which led to tissue damage.
How long has it been like that?
I would strongly advise going to a vet. Depending on how bad the damage is the tip might have to...
Hey there!
I agree with Pssh - you should add more foliage and more sticks for climbing, it might be just that.
My veiled used to do the same thing at some point. Back then he lived in a huge, well planted terrarium with plenty of climbing space. Nevertheless, for a period of time he used...
I would say, it depends on how you feed your chameleon. If you let the feeders out for your cham to run around and hunt them, then substrate is not a good idea, because it can be accidentally ingested with a feeder, which can lead to impaction. Impactions are dangerous and can be deadly...
I use a flat plastic lid from a tupperware container for mine. If the edges are still too high, you can just cut the edge off on one side using scissors ;)
After reading this thread: https://www.chameleonforums.com/gutload-has-made-huge-difference-95230/, I switched completely to wet...
Hey there!
If the temps are really as you wrote then you really need to get here temperatures up ASAP!! As Kate wrote - 29 degrees is what you should be aiming at for a basking spot for a female. Since chameleons are cold-blooded animals they need to get external energy to be able to function...
Hey there!
Just wanted to second the previous reply and tell you that you cham does not look stressed at all :) actually, he looks like a healthy happy critter, but he indeed seems to have pretty rare coloration for a veiled!
When they get stressed, they usually go dark grey/black, try to...
Hey again,
Really sorry for you loosing your little girl...
Even the most experienced keepers make mistakes, and sometimes things go wrong in spite of all the care and precautions. But once again - try not beating yourself up. Let go and move on. When you feel again that you can - get...
Hey there, really sorry to hear about what happened to your little girl. I had a similar experience and I know how much it sucks to see your animal fade away like that.
From what I see, at least two things should be improved:
60-70 degrees sounds too low even for a female. You really need...
Thank you-thank you-thank you!!!!
Especially for the myth section. Nice to know, that I am not alone in my thoughts/conclusions. These forums are fantastic and full of useful knowledge, but I am often reluctant to post here myself because I am afraid of being eaten alive for e.g. not tearing...
There has recently been made a very nice blog entry that I would really recommend you to read. It is exactly about taming and bonding with your cham:
https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/psychobunny/746-taming-chameleon.html
I tried a similar approach myself and it worked very well for me and...
Actually, crickets do have a hard exoskeleton, that they do shed once in a while :) Out comes a white (or pinkish) to begin with, soft-shelled cricket. After some time the exoskeleton hardens up and darkens in colour. They tend to hide right after mold, I guess because they are rather helpless...
I would say it depends on a few things.
What chameleon are we talking about? Is it an adult, is it a juvenile?
No way would I try it out on a pregnant female, especially on a young female about to lay eggs the first time. Neither would I do that with a juvenile or a chameleon that already...
This is a fantastic post!! Very thoroughly and nicely written, made me smile more than once, because I remembered my own ventures in that area :) I think a lot of people will find this useful.
I intuitively came to using pretty much the same approach as described and I can confirm that it...
Completely normal :)
One of the reasons for this kind of behaviour is that chameleons eyes shed together with the rest of the body. Pieces of old skin get in the way of your guys vision, which makes him feel less secure, since he can't see much. So, for example, your familiar hand just looks...
