Honestly I don't think it's worth the risk. College is crazy and you won't have a whole lot of time. Then the issue comes up, what if you get caught??? Some schools will kick you out, others will make you get rid of them immediately. Then what will you do?
I'm in college and my school allows...
They're super little creatures, I've only 4 ;)
Syn gave you some good sites...
Are you getting an adult or juvie or baby?
Your size enclosure should be adequate for the size gecko, but yes, height is more important. My guys and gals are in aquariums but you can get some nice exoterra glass...
Thank you! I think it just depends on the gecko, though I've read most CB cresties don't drop their tails. I had my jumpy gal jump from my kitchen counter to the carpet (thank god) and didn't drop her tail. My cat occasionally hangs on the top of their cages and that doesn't seem to bother them...
Just depends on the gecko, when they are startled they have the ability to drop their tails (hey it's useful to distract predators ;)). It's actually very uncommon to see a crestie in the wild with a tail. Mine all have their tails, some lose them others don't. Mine better not!
Thought I'd share my cresties, two gals and two guys. My large male is just going through a shed so I decided no photos for tonight, now I know why he kept barking at me ;)
Here's my littlest guy, Dobbee. Such a sweetie.
Here's my smaller female, also a sweet girl and still unnamed...
Thank you Jann, I really appreciate your input. I'll be looking for potential homes that'll be able to give both guys the attention they deserve if I find I won't be able to provide them their proper care.
I LOVE these guys...they are some amazing reptiles. Geckos are cool in general but crestied are just amazing. I would love to get a male at some point....they have such simple care needs (well compared to a chameleon). They're both beautiful, thanks for sharing!
Thank you everyone for your input, I really appreciate it. I will be looking around the next few months for a suitable home locally. Most likely I will keep them unless I find a better home.
My biggest concern is over the summer, I actually had some luck and will be traveling to horse shows...
:D Ha! This cracked me up! Too bad I am the girlfriend, so I suppose I would need a boyfriend in the house ;)
It's not that I can't take care of them but just that I can't spend enough time with them in terms of bringing them out and free ranging. They're still one of my most spoiled...
Well life has been quite complicated lately and I haven't been on the forums much lately, just browsing around and seeing what everyones been up to.
Lately I feel I've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I'm running around from school to work to horses to sleep and...
1.)how long have you had chameleons?
I first started with chams briefly in 2005 for about a year until I moved to Oregon from California. From there I restarted in May. Many things have changed since then!
2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)
In 2005 I...
Save up the money and buy an adult, life is much easier and finding feeders at your regular pet store is also much simpler. In terms of time, it's not as if you need to exercise your cham ;) I'm in college full time, at the barn all the time, and at work as well. I'd buy the largest cage you can...
I drilled 4 little holes in my cage (I've an 18x18x36). It really depends how your plants are placed but basically I drilled two holes under my plants (my plants sit in those plastic cups fit to them) and two holes in the middle of the cage where most of my water accumulated.
Lift the cage...
Thank you :) His horns are perfect, well he's just perfect. I wish I would've had my camera but I hadn't anticipated seeing him. Usually he's at his sleeping spot (glowing green) which happens to be in the middle of his plant quite hidden. Today he decided to change things up so I had to snap...
