I have a translucent female. She is very shy so let me see if I can sneak a pic of her to post. I dont know this to be a fact, but from what little info I can find on them is that the translucent gene is not from inbreeding. More likely a genetic issue similar to albinism in other animals. I can...
I believe that all life is sacred. That being said, I have to agree with Laurie. Without people there would be nobody to rebuild and protect one of the rarest ecosystems in the world. Logging and other detrimental industries have erupted in Madagascar and thankfully there are many who are...
I am inclined to lean toward Panthers. Like many have said, it also depends on the animal. I have some who are super friendly, some who are like a junk yard dog, and everything in between! Best of luck and keep us posted!:)
If you do end up getting the egg flats from a store or restaurant, I would recommend that you bake them off first to eliminate any traces of bacteria. Set your oven to 200 degrees and place the eggs flats right on the racks (not stacked) and bake about 20min.. A little stinky, but effective!
A few concerns...I don't really see a whole lot of green in his cage. Cant tell if those are live or fake leaves. He NEEDS both. A good size live plant will not only provide extra humidity but it gives more surface for water drops. Remember, they get their water by licking the water off leaves...
Very sorry to hear about the little guy. I hope this doesn't discourage you from trying again. Should you choose to get another, I would do more research before and avoid buying baby chams from a pet store. This is the best place to buy from a reputable breeder that will give you a healthy...
Right now I have 12 ambilobe panther and 15 veiled clutches cooking right now...that's about 2k eggs total. Many more on the way too! My next project is going to be ambanjas. It's pretty kool to have my dream job! Life is good!:D
Moving to a new cage can be very stressful for a cham regardless of whether or not they are preggers. Give her some time to adjust. How many times did you attempt to breed? If she is not receptive or if she is already pregnant, she will turn very dark when you put her into his cage and will let...
Eggs look healthy. Nice white coloration. I noticed some "sweating" around the sides of your container. This indicates too much moisture inside. Just wipe it off with a paper towel and keep an eye out for more. I check moisture levels regularly. Poke a finger into vermiculite and it should be...
Thank you all so much. It really does help to hear from others who have gone through the same. On a much happier note...one of my female veiled just laid and another clutch hatching soon! It's amazing how something great happens just when you are feeling so awful. Mother Nature knows just how to...
I agree with pantherenvy. I let my females go without breeding till about 1yr old. Do you have a laying bin ready and waiting in her cage? If she doesn't see a suitable place to lay when she's ready then that leads to a whole other problem...egg bound. Pay attention to her colors prior to ...
I have to admit that I am crying my eyes out as I post this. I have many male and female Panther and Veiled Chams under my loving care. Each one is special to me and it isn't hard to fall in love with each and every one of them. Today is especially sad because one of my older female panthers is...
I also use the pesticide sprayer and made life much simpler. As for a drip cup, I use a well sanitized deli cup that I have poked a small hole in the bottom. You may want to play around with the size of the hole until you get a nice slow drip. Place it right ontop of the cage and fill it 2x day...
