Ugh that leg looks liquified...fashion a splint or get a vet NOW. An internal infection is gonna kill em otherwise. I know if MY leg looked like that I would be in some serious pain, think of it that way. All signs point to a vet, if you dont have one locally contact the ZOO!
Perfect lots to hide in! I wont hate on your lights, I use the sun for uvb as most should if possible. Your plants may take a heat beating but time will tell. I dig the idea of the tube for the crickets, if you devise a plan please post! 10! As far as the dirt, if you are paranoid, as most of...
It may get you by for a while, but my cham climbs the plants, he doesnt mess with the bars. If your cham climbs the bars your plants are insufficient, not offering a hiding place or decent paths to get around and hunt.
Roaches are the reason jackson thrive in hawaii, they grow to the size of birds. But I will go with the flow...variety is key. I may waste a few insects but I gutload everything, and throwing in some dried seaweed for the insects to munch is a good source of vitamin everything...not to mention...
I feed my meal worms the same cricket gut load. Some wax worms, and crickets. They can get picky and even eat less some days. It depends, I ususally dust once a week and I cup feed AND free range. I work all day and I have college at night so it is always available.
Awesome job, I built mine as well. Its way more satisfying when you build a home the cham digs! I wouldnt worry just yet, give him a day or so to figure out he is alone in the enclosure and the space is his own. Just establish his drip spot so it can at least find water, his hunger will return...
A common scare , my chams shy away at first but the "instinct" to drink kicks in after about the second full minute of misting. I know if he is thirsty because he will haul it over to the nearest bunch of leaves and lick the droplets. If he is eating I sure he is drinking, just keep an eye on...
Garage sale or some cheap end tables from the goodwill will work. You can drill a hole in one and run a rubber hose to a catch tray in a drawer...nice and clean looking. I use end table...2 cuz my cage is Ginourmous.
Its gotta be getting it from somewhere in there. I always monitor the drinking part, feeding not so much as hydration is so much more important. My jackson loves a nice warm shower, a massage water head I advise for smaller water drops.
I use hydei flies and let roughlt 12-15 loose at a time, it keeps the cham busy for quite awhile. As far as the blue stuff called fly meat, they inject their eggs into the stuff so if you dont see anything happening wait, the hydei breed take much longer to reproduce.
My jackson occasionaly basks and will close his eyes for a bit...not all day mind you. He is like any cold blooded animal, they absorb heat from its source. If he sleeps all day...bad. But an occasional snooze is fine. Too many people on these forums go off what their "chams for retards" book...
I own jacksons chams. As far as temps go they are easy...I keep the basking area around 90 and they find a comfy spot in the temp range and I allow temps to drop down to 65 at night. They are high elevation creatures and the temp drop at night they supposedly like. Humidity wise I live in the...
Says who? Unless you have UV resistant glass aka tinted...which most of you dont because builders are cheap...you wont be affected. Understand this, if it is UV resistant glass...it resists UV it doesnt block it...a solid wall is the only thing that can block ultra violet radiation.Period. I f...
I use a spray by zilla called tropical mist its for shedding mostly, not vitamins. I would stick with a good gut load routine, and a dusting of a few crix or worms once a week. Pet store owners can be good or bad, I would judge that by his stock and how healthy they are before I take advice on...
 Correct me if Im wrong but if I cant rely on the SUN for uvb, what in the world makes anyone believe a light bulb will be better? Its all about full spectrum of light for any creature...the sun has it all UVA,UVB, etc. I have Jacksons who depend on sun light more than some chams, and...
Nightcrawler is right alot of people..in good climates some allow their chams roaming room. I built my cage for nothing as I was fortunate to have tons of wood laying around from my construction days. It all depends on your resources...be it cash or wood laying around.
This is my home crafted by yours truly. Who said you cant make a good cage? 52 inches tall,36 wide and 28 inches deep. Custom stain of tree brown and leafy green coated with varathane water bourne polyurethane! 1/4 inch steel mesh...never rusts!
