so saddened to hear of Romeo's passing. we will all miss him. they are such amazing animals and just seem to leave bigger holes in our hearts when they are gone. sorry you are finding this out so soon with your big guy.
take some distilled water, sterile water, or sterile saline and drip it in and on his eye. depending on how friendly, you could offer your finger for him to rub on while you are doing the drips. hopefully he is just trying to clean something out but they do some crazy stuff with their eyes...
weak and wobbly means that he can't get to his water as easily as before. that is probably the reason his urates are darkening. move his dripper so it drips right next to where he is perching and drip water down his nose until he drinks as many times a day as you can. hydration is most...
if you look at the pic of him being held, the right upper arm looks like twister's after it had broken. back legs look pretty good in these pics but stick with the liquid ca unless at all possible to get the shots. they recover much quicker with the shots which means less suffering for them...
about the hospital bin: it is more important to keep them safe and protected from other critters, etc. and to keep them from falling and hurting themselves worse. at night i kept mine in a plastic shoebox sized tub inside his old cage. if they aren't moving around much, it doesn't take much...
most of the battle is their will to live. things will get better for you as their bone density increases. breaks will heal and the bones will get stronger. they may have crooked legs and stuff but they learn how to use them and get around. check out posts and videos by captainmorgantown...
good for you. better to be safe than sorry. :)
i mentioned it in the other thread because they can' t figure out what is wrong with their cham that is sick even though it looks like they are doing everything right. when my "special needs" boy got sick, water was one of the things the vet...
welcome to the forum! it is the greatest place for all kinds of info. lots of skilled and helpful people too.
your cham can go without food for a week before it becomes any kind of worry unless they aren't eating because of something else going on. and he might be "off" his crix because...
it probably bothers him to pull himself around on soft or broken legs.
do everything to discourage climbing and make it so if he does, he can't fall very far. mine broke a leg catching himself from falling. put branches and leaves on the towel covered bottom of his cage or make a hospital...
check out the mbd sticky thread. lots of good links to threads about what people have done for their mbd chams. especially check out kerbie's thread and how she splinted the legs. great idea i wish i had when i was going through similar situation.
hoping for the best. you are doing amazing!
fantastic, informative and well written!! it may be long but it is so right in most cases.
now, do you have any ideas for if none of this works? i have a seven month old male i have had since he was 1 month old. to this day, the only time i can get anywhere near him or his cage without him...
there are sooooo many things you can do. read the sticky thread on mbd for starters. lots of links to great thread about mbd chams and their recoveries and what their owners have learned through the process.
nutrition of both the cham and its feeders is very important. read...
you need x-rays to check the bone density and look for breaks and/or deformities to rule out mbd. it may be early on in the disease so just feeling the bones for sturdiness won't cut it.
there are also chams that have weird metabolisms just like people are different. if that is diego's...
some are meaner than others. but if she knows she scares you and you jump away she is accomplishing her goal and getting you away from her. i started with my meanies just reaching in to clean without trying to touch them. after a bit they realize you aren't attacking them. doesn't mean they...
with age can come darker areas like what he has along the back of his casque. sometimes they are darker than others or more spots from top to bottom along there. they also can show black on the front edge and their brow ridges without it being anything to worry about. just a growing boy thing.
