My favorite species ever :D
I haven't kept them in a long time, but a few of my experiences with them:
1. They did not bask like some other montanes (my Jacksons were avid baskers).
2. The females liked to stay lower in the canopy, and often went on the ground.
3. They will drop to the...
Anthropomorphic thread title aside...
I have an adult male panther who lives either outside or inside when it's too cold. He's been active and acting normal: drinking well, basking, looking well filled-out, being a brat.
For the last week or so, he's refused to eat anything but superworms...
The mesh he has now is big and fairly soft - he's not able to reach the hardware cloth anymore. I did have fake vines twined on it, but it didn't stop him from crawling all over the walls and I just ended up not being able to see inside. Plus, it was seriously blocking the sun and he loves to...
Thanks for the advice! I ended up adding another, taller tree to the enclosure (it hits all 4 sides and the top) and filling in all the other blank walls with branches. Now the little jerk spends a lot of time climbing all over the door, which is the one clear wall, for obvious reasons.
I...
I know he wants to be free, but he does live outside :) I put down a bed of dried leaves (that I change regularly) because he likes goes onto the ground and I didn't want him in contact with the dirt, so I think he'll be pretty safe if he falls, though it is a long drop to the bottom.
Maybe...
So, my adult male panther (tentatively named Don Chameleone by my husband) is an extremely active guy. He is always on the walls of his enclosure. Well... he's everywhere else too, but he's on the walls more than I would like. He pretty much uses every inch of his 6ft x 5ft enclosure.
I first...
I don't have any advice for you, but I just wanted to say that I'm thinking good thoughts for Pokey. He's one of the cutest chams I've seen and I really hope he gets better soon.
With the hoods from LLL - you might have to wait through a good minute or so of flickering before the light actually comes on. I'd give it another shot.
Thanks to everyone for the input! I ended up going with a soft, smooth plastic mesh stapled to the inside of the cage, leaving a 1" gap between that and the hardware cloth. So far, it seems to be working well and even discourages wall-climbing slightly. It's not the prettiest thing, but that's...
It's incredibly dangerous to anthropomorphize your animals like this. Why can't we just respect that chameleons and most reptiles are different creatures and have different needs than humans do?
As others have said, please separate them. They may appear to be 'used to each other' and not...
You could try using a compact fluorescent bulb - not one made for reptiles (stay away from those), but just a regular home-use bulb. I use them for my salamanders when I want more light, but not heat. They're nice and bright, but stay pretty cool.
I'm pretty sure these don't have the same eye...
(I really wish there was a thread for little stupid questions)
So, my new-ish panther is in an outdoor enclosure that's got regular hardware cloth on it. I've read about the issues with using this, but I've used it on all my outdoor cages in the past and never had a problem. However, this guy...
Update time !!!:D
He's doing really well, I think. No name yet. He's extremely active and almost never retreats into the plants. Instead, he spends all of his time zooming around the branches at the top. Some random photos of the outside enclosure w/ angry cham:
I'm...
