My 4 month old climbed out the top when I left the door open long enough to get his crickets ready, I went back to the cage and he was standing on top, freaked me right out. They are sneaky sometimes.
What kind of ivy? I would not use English Ivy, as they are not safe for chameleons. I am pretty sure I poisoned my baby chameleon by putting English Ivy in his cage. If a silkworm attaches himself to a leaf and the chameleon eats it, there could be a small piece of leaf that gets ingested and...
I updated the sad story on my Sambava in a different thread, but short story is that I got up one morning 5 days after I got him and he looked beyond terrible, sunken eyes, very very dark coloring, etc. I tried to rehydrate him in the shower, etc., but he died that afternoon. The only thing...
I have 2 3 month old Nosy Be's and I know it's a leap of faith but they really won't let themselves starve at that age so they'll go find their crickets if you put them in there somewhere. They have all day in there with nothing to do but hunt if they're hungry, which is what they would do in...
Carol, I know I replied in another section, but I thought I'd also do it here for those that were following it. I have no solid evidence that the silkworms ate any of the ivy, but I do know that my 3 month old Sambava looked fine the night he ate them, but the next day he was on a downward...
I think Devil's Ivy is safe, as it is actually a Pothos. I am the one who is pretty sure I poisoned my baby Sambava with English Ivy, which is a true ivy, and the kind that you find in a lot of topiaries. I screwed up and thought "ivy, since Devil's ivy is OK then why not English ivy?" It is...
I thought I might dip my toe into that breeding thing at some point. I'm always up for a challenge. With the experts on this forum I feel like I can do anything, you guys are great.
I had the replacement Sambava for 4 days, I woke up that morning and he looked terrible, sunken eyes...
I am doing the exact same thing, I used a deli cup, drilled a hole at the bottom, put some aquarium tubing into that, then ran that down to the floor to a milk jug. Also, I put a screen over the top so the crickets (and my cham) don't fall in and drown. Works great!
All 3 of my chams are ready for bed by 6pm right now, which is basically when it's dark outside. One of mine even closes his eyes before the lights go out sometimes, but I still let the lights stay on til 8pm. They all have full view of a window so they know when it gets dark. I used to worry...
Hi all,
Thought I'd jump in on the Kilgour chamwagon and show my photos of a male and unrelated female Nosy Be that I got a few weeks ago from Tom. Some of you might remember that I bought a Sambava from him too, but he is no longer with me due to accidental poisoning (I'll share that in...
Don't shoot any photos of your chams at less than 800ISO unless you're in sunlight outside. Also, when you are close up (on the macro setting), make sure your focus is on the eyes, because as long as the eyes are in focus the entire image will look better. You may be able to change the focus...
Louie won't fire up either... the closest he gets is that his throat will turn orange. I'm still not sure if he is ambanja or sambava and since I can't get him to fire up I'm not sure how I'll know. I do have 2 new Nosy Be's so maybe when they get bigger I can see if that will get him going...
I have the Lumix LX-3, and it is very good in low light. I know the LX-5 even improves on that. That line also has the best sensors, so I'd go with that.
Mine has done the same thing in terms of tapering the eating, and he is about 13 months old, so I think that age is when things slow down for them. I have invested in a variety of feeders like silkworms, hornworms, super worms, butter worms, dubia roaches, and waxworks to perk up his appetite...
OK, here's the little guy that replaced the first one that was DOA. Thanks again Tom for replacing him, this little fella has a great future ahead of him I think.... I still haven't settled on his name, the kids are still coming up with their choices, but to keep with the Western theme of his...
I wondered about his eyes too, they've always looked that way, it's like he has bags under his eyes... they don't seem to bother him, but I'm not sure that he sees normally because he misses a lot and since I've had him I've done all the supplements correctly, so maybe he had an issue before...
