The problem some people have with glass is ventilation and temp variants. As long as the cage is able to dry out in between mistings, and that the bottom of the cage is cooler than the top - you should be ok to use the cage you have for a little while longer. Your cham will outgrow that cage...
Nice! The only thing I would change is the temp/humidity gauges. Those dials are notorious for being inaccurate - I went through a few before going digital - way better.
I like what you did with the branches - I don't think I've seen a jungle gym setup like that before. You've got a lot of extra space you can fill out - your cham would love it :)
I think a nice live plant would make a great addition. Maybe a good sized pothos, or schefflera in the middle.
Would the fact that they're laid in dirt make a difference? Can anything breach the outer membrane and leach into the egg, effecting it's taste?
Using them in homemade dog/cat food might actually be a good idea. Female chams go through a lot to make those eggs, so if you can find a use for...
What a pretty girl. I don't think I've ever seen a female veiled with so much orange :)
If you go to a petsmart or reptile store you should be able to find a heat lamp with a dimmer switch on it. I love these, because no matter how high the wattage is in the bulb, you can lower it to the...
I'm not all that experienced with plants, but I want to try my hand at owning a ficus. I don't think I'll use it inside the enclosure, but instead as a free range perch that I can use when Mr.Pink's cage is being cleaned.
I noticed a small problem with it though - they have a ton of small...
Thanks! We can't wait either. My husband and I will be devoting the whole day to the finishing touches to the build. Once it's complete I'll take lots of pictures.
I have to go out today and try and find some wire shelving racks to use for the bottom of the cage. I was trying to rearrange...
Ok. I know I've been slacking off, but it really is hard for me to get much done with the work schedule I'm on. But we're almost done!
The mistking has been ordered, and should be here in a few days :D Purchased a nice 36" ballast for $60 on sale, and another 24" t5 grow light. I went a...
If you're still getting a paint smell try lightly wiping the whole cage down with some water and maybe a little soap? I wouldn't do this until it's completely cured. Curing times also depend on the climate where you live, and can vary depending on humidity.
Sounds good, but you'll want to check to make sure that there are no fertilizers in it.
I also find that organic potting mix is really dense.... I found this out the hard way when one of my scheffleras got really bad root rot. You might find that the soil doesn't drain well - if that's...
I use peroxide for almost everything! As well as for cleaning, I dilute some in water and use it to water my plants with. It prevents root rot by giving the roots oxygen. It kills mold and fungus in the soil too.
I've seen the "bonsai" scheffleras, and they are small. The one on that site says to be about 11 inches in total height. That's also really expensive might I add.... it'd be way cheaper to get a full sized one somewhere else.
Olimpia saved my chameleon's life, when two reptile vets couldn't even tell me what was wrong with him. She's been helping chameleon owners with their health problems for free, for a long time.
Telling by your original post I would congratulate you for owning up to your mistakes, but now...
I don't have any pictures, but the store that I get my crickets from has successfully hatched a bunch of what they are calling "Low Trans" Veileds.
There was one little boy in particular that not only had no apparent fear of people, but also was the only one with white covering almost 2/3 of...
I think it depends on the chameleon. Mine doesn't hide very often at all, so I don't think he minds the traffic. He doesn't like the cats too much though - and will keep a pretty close eye on them whenever they are in the room.
Sometimes he'll want out of the cage, so I go to take him out...
I think if you're willing to put in the time and money, you should get a chameleon. :) My veiled was my first reptile, you just have to do the research (this place is THE place to learn), and get over the bug thing. Once you have everything setup properly, they're not difficult to care for...
