I still cup feed. I do it because I want to be able to monitor what he is eating, to make sure I don't have to many crickets loose in the cage, and because he is a domestic animal at this point. I treat him like my dogs, I wouldn't take their food and throw it in the yard. A few escape so he...
I enjoy the unique things in my life. I love Chams, vespa's, and fishing. All things that kind of require me to do alone. But I am retired from the army, I am a proud father and husband. I love people. I have coached sports, mentor to young soldiers, and a good neighbor. So maybe I like solitary...
My Cham is in my office so I have to turn on the lights in the evening sometimes and it doesn't really seem to brother him. He never wakes up or moves and seems to have no idea I am there. I also have a street light outside of his window and it doesnt seem to bother him at all. Hope this helps.
I have never heard of the formation of horns causing a color change? Would tend to think it would be from a move/lighting change etc. could be the age maybe, I would try to reach out to other young owners.
So are the cfl bulbs as effective as the tube bulbs? I started with a cfl and then switched to a long tube bulb. I felt like my Cham was lethargic and after I switched it seemed like he became more active and his color improved. So are they the same or is one better than the other?
I usually buy good quality food for my family and share a little with the crickets. I find that this works best for me. If you are keeping large amounts of crickets then you might have to buy them their own groceries. I will buy frozen squash to keep for the feeders, it is easy and convenient...
Even cheaper at Lowes or Home Depot. That little desk lamp isn't designed for a light to be on in it for 12 hours a day. But the best light for your Cham is a long tube style lamp mounted in a appropriate fixture. Only real way to get the UVB that your pet needs.
I still use cup/bottle feeding for my Jackson's. I do let other things like flies and worms go in his cage, he eats both of those items quickly, but for crickets I use a cup to feed.
Hopefully it is just a little quirk. Could be trying to get away from the heat or maybe he found a cool spot that he is comfortable in? Keep an eye on him and make sure that he is still eating/drinking and I am sure he will be fine.
So how did you do it? Would love to hear your details. Are you feeding them to your Chams yet? How hard has it been? I really want to try mantis but not sure how get started and would like to give it a go after I figure things out a little.
Maybe try some hi interest feeders to get him going. Try some flies and waxworms maybe to get him jump started. I find sometimes it is about getting them eating something and then getting them to eat better feeders. I would try to handle him as little as possible. Give time, space and lots of...
Now what? I want to try some but not sure. Do you feed them off now? Or do you get them bigger first? (how do you do that) Doesn't look like their is much to them at this point.
My guy will always eat flies! You can order blue bottle flies from lots of places. I like them because they are a little bigger. You can try to catch a few to try to see if that works. It worked for me, my guy was off everything except flies and now he is back to crickets. Some people also use...
I got some at a reptile expo to try and glad I did, my guy is not a fan! Wish I could use them because they do seem much easier. Good luck finding a sample.
Go to a big box store and get some crickets! Gut load them and get them to your Cham ASAP. Bait shops also usually have crickets. Get something into the belly, even a few wax worms wouldn't hurt to jump start the little guy.
