Perhaps it's a sign of mineral deficiency. People do strange things too when this happens. Or maybe sand tastes delicious. Either way, you need it covered. Watch him like a hawk and his cage too for defecation. If he's impacted you need to respond fast. I'd call for a vet appt. now just to...
I didn't think you meant to be rude. :)
It's just that there is a WORLD of difference between research and experience. Problems pop up as well as unexpected events. I trust that since you've already done lots of research that you'll do what you think is best. :) Maybe that means getting...
I'm seriously looking into these guys. I'm assuming you plan on breeding since you have a pair. I'd be interested in purchasing one of their offspring. :)
What's their temperament like? And are males the more colorful? Where'd you get them and for how much if you don't mind my asking...
Hey, Welcome to the forums!
Please don't take any offense to the following.
I STRONGLY urge you to STAY AWAY from chameleons at this time. You're completely new to reptiles and while I have over 30 different species of herps, my chameleon is the most difficult species I own. I would try...
Try dubia roaches. They can't climb, they don't make noise, they don't die, and they DON'T STINK! They're also VERY nutritious for your chameleon. What's not to love? They're just like any other bug, although they can't bite like crickets can.
Perhaps he just doesn't want to be held. Is he sleeping during the day/refusing food/ sunken eyes? Those are some of the main indicators. Chams do much better without hands on interaction.
Definitely fill out the "How to ask for help" sheet.
You did what you could. I respect you for bringing your cham to the vet and paying for surgery and not just staying home and trying home remedies. It takes a lot of love to do that, and we could use more people like you around here. Perhaps you should give things some time and try again...
Where from, then? O.O I've been bitten before and have never had a reaction. How on earth could they be venomous? I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I've never observed it.
It didn't make sense to me. Neurotoxins aren't built up over time. :P And there's not way that beardies have hemotoxic venom on their tongues. It was reasonably convincing though. Funny link! :D
Bring out the Trioceros sternfeldi!
I have a biased interest in these guys because my last name is Sternfeld. :D
They're seriously beautiful though. I'm afraid to even consider one because I have my veiled's care down to a system but I'm sure that most Trioceros species MUST be more...
One of my favorite parts about Hawk is the white casque. :P It looks so cool against all the yellow. And yeah, Pep has a great casque. Sometimes it's black and white, other times it's blue and yellow with green stripes. He also gets a LOT of yellow on his legs and torso markings. I love...
