I tried ordering silkworms but they were sold out :(. He did grab a locust this afternoon off a branch, so still eating. We'll keep an eye on him and see how it goes over the next week or so.
You know, I have some bamboo rods in my viv, and I did wonder why sometimes Hugo seemed to slip! This makes perfect sense! I thought that if you were to use branches from trees they had to be treated first, to avoid possible infections?
Update - Yup, he damaged it!
Well, as luck (or rather bad luck) would have it, it looks like Hugo did damage his tongue. When I had seen him eating, he must have reached in to eat. I hadn't seen him use his tongue for a few days, but the locusts have been disappearing. Last night I saw him...
Don't forget the beer fridge - it's a must in a swanky new pad. You have a point, Tiff how can you say you love them when they don't have these necessities?! :D
It was awful Codi, and i really feel for you and the way yours turned out. I was worried that trying to get him out would make it worse, and was waiting for him to pass out as i thought it would then be easier, but thankfully it wasn't required. It was awful to watch. The scary part was that...
Thanks Ronnie, will have a search and see what i can find. I was getting ready to do chameleon mouth to mouth and rush him to the vets! Luckily, he was able to take care of it all himself!
Thanks, I will.
And the locust was quite small (ex large, which isn't that big), i think he just took it side on rather than head on, but even then it wasn't broken or anything. Was very strange, as he often eats the adults just fine.
Was working yesterday afternoon, and looked up to see Hugo choking violently. Couldn't do much but watch (if i had tried to grab him it would have freaked him out even more) and he then managed to spit out a locust. He seems ok, but I was wondering if there is anything I need to keep an eye out...
Can't you get maggots from a bait shop and let them turn into flies? And Tiff, who did you get the butterworms from? I tried one site, ordered some locusts too, and they forgot to send my order! by the time they sorted it, they had run out of butterworms!
They don't do them themselves, they say they don't have the equipment and it gets sent to a central lab. I agree it is expensive, but we had it done at a time when Hugo had a small amount of blood in his poop and i didn't want to take any chances, so it was rushed straight in. I think I will...
Sorry if you thought I was being mean Tiff, I wasn't. I remembered you saying she would always eat, so was trying to use that example that they won't always stop once 'full'. Lily was lovely. I think we all want to make sure that our animals are well looked after. I am constantly spoiling the...
That picture is a little old. His legs seem to be the same though, but I have noticed that his casque looks a little podgy at the back. His shedding started to calm down at about 5 months, but now he seems to be shedding every 3-4 weeks again. It's also one of those things that people don't seem...
Which is why I asked the question. He is about a year old. He gets fed every other day, usually 3-4 extra large locusts, or 1-2 adult locusts. Some days he eats them all quickly, other days he might not eat all of them, at which point they are removed. They are left in all day so that he can eat...
