Update
Took her to the vet today. Subq fluids, antibiotics, panacur. Will continue with abx and fluids every day. She has started to shed - there are literally layers of old skin under there. Her toes are going to need work and TLC. One fell off today (yes, a toe fell off because of...
What will happen as a result of Rango is what has always happened. When 101 Dalmations came out, everyone wanted a dalmation. Forget that they are high strung and really don't do all that well with little ones. Whatever dog breed wins Westminster automatically becomes the new "gotta have"...
She has now had one betadine "bath" (I soaked gauze in betadine and rubbed it onto the lesions then rinsed with a saline spray). I used neosporin on the lesions and terramycin on the eye. She actually liked it once she calmed down and stopped hissing at me. She had a nice long shower and...
She is quarantined. Should I dilute the betadine? I have some gent ointment on hand, I think. Going to vet as soon as I can get her in. I am going to try the betadine baths, but fewer times per day. She will really stress with that much handling. Thanks for the advice!
Icky skin lesions
I should have named this thread Icky skin lesions. Anyone?
Kinyonga, thanks for the comments. I really want to hear from anyone who has dealt with this. Has anyone had a cham survive this kind of thing?
I was afraid it might be a pox. I am really most concerned with what look like subq abscess-like spots near her hind quarters. I think there may be multiple issues going on here, unfortunately. Any ideas on how to treat these things?
Got this dilepis from LPS - they gave her (i think a female? - no spurs) today because, well take a look at the photos. She is dehydrated - but now is drinking well. Right eye (can't see in photos) is sunken but the turret itself looks swollen. Looks like infection to me.
The raised...
I really think that the lower nighttime temp drops are critical for the health of the montane species.
If you look at a map (there is a good paper available via google called "The two-horned chameleons of East Africa" by Mariaux et al (ZZoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2008...
They all look great! Last summer I kept the Tavs you sent outside, well into the first week of October, and they did just great. I had them in moveable cages so I could situate them where they needed to be shade-wise daily. This summer, I plan on a big enclosure which will get partial sun for...
These guys tend to be very hardy. I have bred them and kept them for years. I would mist as well as provide standing water. They like warmer temps as others have said but you should have a cool end and a warm end of the enclosure so he can thermoregulate as necessary. Small crickets, fruit...
These guys are full of piss and vinegar and if WC, even moreso. I've had mine since July (from Cainschams) and they still give me the stink eye. They don't like to messed with, pampered or fussed over. Lush plants, plenty of water; put ther prey in and step back and watch. Keep an eye for...
Jared,
My husband (an electrical engineer) says the capacitor in the ballast blew. It happens from being old or getting too hot. They just go after a while. Replace the ballast and you should be good to go!
Hemipenal Prolapse Treatment
Here is what I have stored on this condition. Citation is at the bottom:
Hemipenal Prolapse
Prolapse of one or both hemipenes is occasionally seen in male chameleons. The prolapsed structures must be kept moist and well-lubricated (e.g., with water-soluble...
I've lost count at this point... clean it out and put some antiiotic cream on there with a bandaid and you should be good. I remember once when i was about 10 years old, I was on a garter snake hunting kick and I suppose I wasn't particularly good at it, because I got bitten a few times. I...
Anyone know whether ladybugs are ok to eat? I have access to hundreds of them. Since my tavetanas eat anything that moves, I'm thinking they might be a nice treat.
The little one died overnight. Definitely not unexpected as he had multiple deformities.
Benny, is it possile to sex these neonates? I am not sure when the hemipenal bulge should be noticeable/definitive in sexing. Thanks.
That's a green anole. By the looks of it, she is a female. hard to tell from photo ut also looks quite plump which would mean she is gravid. I have kept these for many years and they are a great pet for kids. They actually do well in a screen top aquarium but an exo terra is better because...
