I just came home from getting a timer for my lamps and I noticed that Larry was on a leaf stem with his tail curled. I don't think he was sleeping but he could have heard and then seen me walk in. He hasn't done this before (not that I have seen at least) but he always curls his tail when he is...
It sounds like once you have them they are there to stay for a while. Is there any good way to prevent your cham from picking them up? For instance, how would I go about keeping my new baby veiled from those little buggers?
He certainly has access to shade, it also rained pretty decently an hour ago so its still kinda overcast and yucky. Who says the Florida weather is nice?
Thanks Jann, I really like him. There was a bigger one and a more colorful one at the place where I picked him up but I went with Larry...
I picked up a baby veiled chameleon last Thursday (Larry) and I have had him for a week and a day now (he just turned 15 weeks old). First off, I would like to say thank you to everyone for the guidance that you have given whether it be from a PM, a thread, or overall 'how to' guide. I can't...
There are the compact coil bulbs as well as the tube bulbs. I made the same mistake when a pet store associate told me to get the coil bulb (causes major eye problems).

Pothos plants work pretty well and are safe for chameleons (that's what I am using for mine). Make sure you ask the people where you are buying your plants if they use pesticide on their plants, that can make...
It starts off as a small black spot than it grows from within the spot. It really just looks like a scorched leaf and it only does it if the light is on it. If I move it for instance it ceases.
I have my enclosure set up for my 14 week old male veiled to where the basking light (75 watt) is about 6-8 inches above from the highest point he can reach on the pothos plant. My digital thermometer is placed pretty close to where he can get to but not directly under the center of the light...
That was quite a good read you posted there, I certainly appreciate that. He seems to have a good tempremant all things considered. I did see him press himself down towards one of his leaves when I was trying to get his plant out of the cage so I let him be and came back to him. He chilled out a...
I got a 13 week old male veiled chameleon last Thursday (I named him Larry) and he seems to be acclimating pretty well to his house. For a decent part of the day he was a light brown color which kind of surprised me because he is usually a nice shade of green. I took him and his plant out and...
I am pretty new to chameleon husbandry but nearly every source I read says to ditch the substrate as it is just something else that can end up impacting your chameleon.
Cardboard is pretty basic in what its made of (wood, cellulose, its carbon based) while styrofoam is contains benzene (carcinogen, very toxic to humans).
I don't know how a chameleon's body reacts with poisons (such as benzene) but I'm sure even trace amounts over a period of time (say, the...
I personally would throw the crickets out. Styrofoam is pretty toxic to consume, breath in vapors (if you are melting it). The price of throwing out 400 crickets is a ton smaller than throwing out your chameleon.
