What is your dream chameleon specie?

Paul, thanks for the note. I hadn't heard of A. tigris being kept or bred in captivity. That's encouraging. I should add Calumma tarzan to my list of dream species, but since they are now considering Critically Threatened, I don't expect any to show up on our shores.

    Attack my little minions. ATTACK!

I join the vote on bad idea. 1. It will no effect on the ants. Ants don't "learn" in this way. They will just keep coming. There are enough ants in the colony infesting your home that your baby chams will make no impact. 2. Ants are like zombies in the movies. Since they move...

What is your dream chameleon specie?

    F. antimena and A. tigris are also on my list. I have never heard of A. tigris being kept in captivity. In Europe or North America, has anyone ever kept these?

Very interesting about Land Snails Helix aspersa

I should add that I met Don Wells on several occasions years ago. If he says that snails introduce parasites, he is likely right. All I can say is that my jacksons enjoyed snails as one part of their diet, and they did well for me.

Very interesting about Land Snails Helix aspersa

A few species of chameleons love land snails and slugs, and eat them readily in the wild. Years ago, I regularly fed land snails to a pair of jacksons (xanth), and they loved them. The jacksons knew just what to do. I'd set a snail on a branch, and the jacksons would see it and...

    Stress vs. Vet for cristatus

I recommend against any vitamin supplement at this time. In general, montane species need very little vitamin supplementation, and often develop edema and other complications from over-supplementation. Vitamin supplementation should be considered a long-term maintenance issue, and while WC...

    Reptile super show baby

I live on the Palos Verdes peninsula, and my wife and I hike all the time on the horse trails here. We have never seen a chameleon. In general, the peninsula is far too dry for jacksons to survive. Maybe a vieled or outstaleti could live here, but I doubt even that. There are clusters of...

Questions about a warm steam humidifier.

Never use a warm steam humidifier on a chameleon cage. Warm steam will cultivate bacteria -- lots and lots of bacteria.

    pygmy cham question?

You were right. That is a Rhampholeon spectrum. It looks like a male. Males have a thick tail, and females have a thin tail that tapers to a point without any bulge. Spectrums like it cool -- 70s. Lots of foliage and humid. In my experience, they like to hide deep in the foliage.

Rh. acuminatus (aka "montane pygmy" or "nguru pygmy")

I am interested in acquiring additional Rh. acuminatus. Please send me a PM, if you have one or more acuminatus which you would be willing to sell. Thank you, Mike

    T. deremensis (Giant Usambara 3-horned)

I agree. For those who have been in the hobby for a long time and who keep rarer species -- if you keep it, you should breed it.

    T. deremensis (Giant Usambara 3-horned)

Do you have a female for breeding? Or, is he simply a pet?

    Mold in ExoTerra enclosure

I've been keeping a variety of smaller montane species in glass cages for years without incident. I have no idea what caused his immediate growth of mold on branches which had been baked. I was hoping for a biologically-based solution.

    Mold in ExoTerra enclosure

To anyone with experience with glass enclosures (terraria/vivaria): I cleaned and replanted several 12x12x18 ExoTerra in which I keep pygmies. This included completely emptying the ExoTerra down to an empty glass terrarium and building all the layers back up again. So that no unwanted...

    T. deremensis (Giant Usambara 3-horned)

Paul, I guessed that it had to be CB. I have never seen a deremensis in such perfect condition. Fantastic. I had a male deremensis many years ago. He is shy, skittish, and never became accustomed to interaction with me. How is the demeanor of your CB individual?

    Will it ever end?

I recommend Laurie's approach. Find a species which you enjoy and which is compatible with the region where you live, and then stick with it as best as you can. Try keeping other species, but stick to your chosen species as much as possible. Ultimately, if people stick with a species for...

    CH T. pfefferi -- 3 months old

CH T. pfefferi -- 3 months old. They are active, hungry, robust baby chameleons, which are ready for new homes. I have 1.2 available. T. pfefferi are a small montane species from Cameroon, which are about the size of a F. lateralis (carpet chameleon). I keep mine in glass ExoTerra...

    Outdoor pygmy cages?

Jeremy, "GOC"? What does this stand for? I started to guess "Greater Orange County," but that doesn't seem to fit the context. A planter box is exactly the picture I have in mind. The last time I kept full-size chameleons, I placed a bottomless 24"x24"x36" screen cage on top of a...
