My supers don't smell either. They smell quite nice actually. well I only have 100. They smell just like fortified cereals.. things that go on the shelves and that unflavored ones that no one likes is what i put them in. I dont know why no one is using cereals as bedding, is it because it is...
I read somewhere but could not find the link about the ingredients of the chow. I source my chow from two different places.. and they smell different after a few days.. Can't say which is better. The silks eat it just fine. The color chow doesn't smell like your typical chow at all. It's hard...
a little drier would be better. For those that say that their chow is better than the other, just makes me wonder if they put preservatives in it..it will preserve better for 2 weeks, like a fridge does...if so, your chams are eating preservatives too??
all depends on where you live.. humid or...
well, I accidentally had the veggie crisper too cold and it froze some leaves. and I second that freezing leaves DO NOT WORK!!
I read it from someone it does.. but nope!
Someone told me mashed potatoes!
try it, horns eat tomatoe plants and they're in the same family as potatoes!
additionally, some bran, yeast and ground up vitamins will do.
the items above are what goes into the great lakes horn chow.
all of you guys said it so well!!
yes do a test with 2 silks and within 5min they will be writhing in pain and die..
many years ago I fed them leaves from my own bushes and witnessed this happen. I then remember two days ago I sprayed my yard.. :(
other than that, I have had no issues...
Thanks Ozzie!
yeah, I am sorry to cancel. The next few days at Phoenix is 99 -100... it is just way TOO HOT to ship silkworms, maybe other feeders take the heat well.
People tend to buy from local places .. and believe me, it is at least one day less on the road when you buy local.
I...
Ah! I remember now
You ordered some silkworms raised on leaves and you ordered cook chow (got a good discount on that coz I miscalculated your shipping )..
I emailed you about the silkworms on leaves not eating chow, but didn't get an answer, and so I included an additional half...
hmm... that's for letting me know.. I think I put in way too many silkworms and that it gets overcrowded in a little cup.. .. and now I've cut down on the number of silks in there.. which isn't a good thing either, cuz of course one would want more silkworms!
but hey, you didn't order any...
As for refrigeration, it is NOT recommended. But if you must, you can do it, but only a day at a time.. and take them out to warm up for a few hours and eat, just to keep their body functioning going.
I for one have refrigerated newborn kegos and hatching eggs, with the instructions of a...
my comments are mixed into your previous comments. Don't know if you read that..
but you can refrigerate eggs after you started incubating... but it's very calculated. You shouldn't leave grey eggs in the fridge for more than 5 days... the were about to hatch from what you are telling me...
There are indeed easier ways for mass silkwrm producers to do this. Imagine if I had to brush kegos every time and every hour of the day I would be driven mad!
28-31 days if you have constant, fresh food always available. But they eat a lot. ONe small tree won't be enough to feed 100...
a chow cup is never the ideal set up for silkies. Yes, it is his first time so I recommended that over anything else.. so that he gets a sense of it. After that, there is the advanced stage :)
yes, they live for 28-31 days depending on the line and how much food is fed. If you feed on and off...
