Don't know if you might run into trouble with the wood rotting from all the spray over time. You could use sheet PVC or FRP board, or the acrylic sheeting sold in the lighting section of Home Depot.
I too found the worms managed well on carrots in between orders of the mash...and when the cham chomps a big worm, it is carrot juice that squirts --- very dramatic! Worried that big worms full of that much carrot-colored juice might be packing too much of a VitA wallop, I now use carrots as a...
Couldn't agree more that its important to get them outside -- that's why I'm soo interested in your project. I'd like to build an outdoor enclosure that I could feel confident would be safe and comfortable -- one that I could actually leave unsupervised for more than a couple hours at a time --...
Will they be on the ground, or elevated on...something?
To declare my nervous-nelly colors, as I consider a similar project I find I'm just as concerned about what might get IN the cage (or try to) as whether the chams can get out. For instance, we have some fairly assertive wasps...
One of my panthers does the same. It started at just shy of 6 months -- with that first inkling of a testosterone surge -- the urge to roam to find a mate. Now that he's used to being out and about for a few minutes most days, he'll get very agitated if I'm in the room but don't let him out to...
Roo, it really is a wonderful space -- thanks for sharing the very detailed pictures with us. As a practical matter, did you have to upgrade the wiring or is all of that health/light/fan/humidifier etc. running off one standard circuit? I'm trying to figure out where the break-point is myself...
Thanks Boothy, but I think I'll try the soap trick first -- heaven knows nothing else has worked. (My office now smells like an Italian kitchen, which isn't a bad thing). At this point, I much prefer strategies for annihalation of these invaders over deterrence. I just got a new baby cham and...
I love the look of the moths -- somewhere between a fuzzy fairy creature and science fiction concotion. Don't know if you can make out all the fur on his face and legs (I will have to learn how to shrink jpeg files without losing so much). The antennae are wonderful, very soft and the males...
As of yesterday, the ants that nest in the mulch outside have decided to wait out the rest of winter indoors, and they're making a bee-line for, among other places, the cham cages and their pots, vines, etc. They're coming in around the window sills in several rooms. Hubby and I have followed...
Yup. I was at wits' end with a panther who was trying to rip the heck out of those plastic coated vines -- he would taste, and then bite, using his whole body to try to rip pieces off. I tried desperately to find out what mineral(s) might be missing in his diet that would make him turn to...
