Hello, my I have been witnessing my chameleon eating some dead crickets. He prefers them to be alive but if none can be found he will feast upon the bodies of the slain crickets.
Is this normal behaviour? should I perhaps feed him moar?
I guess I could get a new plant, however I've only had it for about a month because I had to replace it due to other black bugs growing on the other one.
Okay, I have a giant plant in the cage too, what should I do about the plant?
Won't the chameleon get really pissed off if I soak him in water?
I'll place the wood stick in the oven and wipe the cage with bleach.
ohhhhh boy... I really have no way to determine what species the bugs are but some a white, and one or 2 is black. I guess I'll just clean the cage up and stop misting for a day.... How should I get my chameleon water? Hold a straw in front of his mouth? I don't have a syringe.
Well there is wood and a plastic vine as well as a potted plant in the cage, I thought substrate referred to things on the bottom of the cage?
Still not really sure what to do about the mites/bugs on him.. there seams to be some debate as to whether or not the reptile can be harmed with it.
I have supplements and a UVB bulb. TY.
Still not sure what to do about the mites. Guess I'll leave them because someone said that nix can be deadly to the lizard and the mites are harmless. I can't really keep the cage dry because the chameleon requires misting in order to drink.
A number of suggestions have been posted and I'm not sure which one to go with. I use paper towels on the bottom and put paper over the glass so he can't see his reflection. There is soil in the plant but I put marbles over it so he will not accidentally eat the dirt.
Someone said that...
I'm really sorry to hear this. I wonder how it happened? Today my lil guy had a cricket supplement stuck in his mouth and I was really scarred. He was banging his head on a branch and ended up swallowing it. I hope he's okay
Thanks, Im looking at them and there appears to be more of them. There are a few things you mentioned that I do not understand.
What is nix?
What is PIA?
Thanks for the info. I will ask at my local pet store.
However I just witness my chameleon with a green cricket supplement stuck between his mouth which me must have accidentally stuck with his tongue. I did not know what to do so I attempted to remove it but he swallowed it. It is not...
Chameleon Info:
* Your Chameleon - Male Veiled about 2-3 months old
* Handling - Not regularly. Only when he climbs on the mesh ceiling too close to the uva bulb
* Feeding - 1/4inch crickets gut loaded with the green supplements. He eats ALOT, I dust them with calcium every...
Anyone offer any suggestions as to why he keeps climbing on the ceiling toward to uv bulb?
He's done it 3 other times and just recently I was lucky enough to watch him... he stretched himself out really long and extended himself enough to reach the ceiling and started "barking" or biting the...
Again I walk into find him hanging upside down from the ceiling dangerously close to the UV build this time. I trimmed the plants and straightened the paper on the wall in order to prevent him from doing it again and I moved the bulbs back a tiny bit so if it happens again he won't fry. I...
Today i noticed that there are tiny bugs in his cage growing on a plant! The bugs are only as big as specs but I am still worried about them annoying or infecting the chameleon. What should i do?
Today I was at work all day and came home to find my chameleon climbing upside down on the screen mesh ceiling really close to the heat lamp. I got really scared when I saw this and made him climb down as to not hurt his claws. I was nervous because he could have been burned by the lamp or...
Yeah that's the exact same as with mine. So I guess it's normal behavior. Mine shed all his skin today and it was fun to watch him stretch and pick it off. He looked really funny, and now his skin is a lot lighter then what it used to be.
I'm still feeding him 1/4 inch crickets and he eats...
