I agree fungus gnats would be too small for normal use-but variety if always good. My adult happily takes melanogaster fruitflies. I am unsure of what the upper size limit for things is though.
I've seen a few threads on this but was hoping to combine all the info in one place. What have people fed neonate-adult pygmys. Please report in.
With my adult female I have fed
-melanogaster fruitflies
-hydei fruitflies
-bean beetles
Others have reported
-mantid nymphs
-small crickets
-lesser...
kdc: I think I would equate low price to less interest. Its good to hear I underestimated the production. That is a bummer about the females though. I'm wondering if a more restricted diet is needed to reduce egg output?
You need a drainage layer of some sort. The cheapest way to do this is a layer of gravel, rocks, LECA, or charcoal covered with a sheet of weedblocker or windowscreen. Many people use plastic light diffuser- aka eggcrate to build a false bottom with a gap below held up by pvc couplings. One way...
Anyone know the math of how prolific pygs are? They certainly don't compare to large chameleons but I think compared to say geckos they are probably similar.
Clutches average between 1-4 eggs...how many clutches do people get per female per year on average? With cresties 5 is good generally...
How about 0.2?
And 1.0 in a seperate enclosure?
I am looking into adding more foliage. I'm hoping the vining plants will take over and provide more corridors around the tank. Right now the cham really likes the tangle of branches in the shadowy area in the center of the tank...but I've seen...
I did this with a clutch of infertile snake eggs.
I'm not a particularly good cook-they turned out pretty unsavory...but I think they could be made passable.
Note that seaturtle and other turtle eggs are quite highly prized-but the yolk/white is a different composition allowing it to be made...
Anyone in the area interested in a female gargoyle gecko let me know.
Also, anyone have Rieppeleon brevicaudatus available? May also be interested in extra zoomed/exoterra cages.
here is the tank. It is a 12 x 12 x 18 zoomed. Current plantlist
Rhadermachera sinica-China doll plant. Behind wood. Won't be concerned if it dies but it does take over it would be good for the chams to climb on-may be better options out there.
Peperomia scandens
Rhapidophora korthalsii...
Bean beetle cultures for $5 in Socal...I can do multiple cultures that are booming with lots of beetles.
These are great food for hatchlings and pygmy chams and very simple to culture.
I'd prefer pickup, but can ship. In that case, you will receive beans with eggs on them-beetles will...
Their is probably nothing biologically wrong with such hybrids-you are correct. But to me the whole hybrid thing takes away the connection of the animal to the wild in our eyes and makes them sort of like living art. The thing with other reptiles which have been morphed to no end is that often...

Very nice! What is the going rate of these guys these days? A quick rundown on how you keep them would be appreciated also. I've admired phelsuma(and chams actually) from a distance but never had it in me to take the plunge-they seem quite difficult compared to reptiles I am currently keeping.
So much speculation in this thread it is incredibly hard to follow-and not much meaningful has been written in it.
It would be interesting to have verified claims(from the breeders themselves) that panthers cannot be bred past f5 or whatever. I would also be inclined suppose it is some lack in...
