It will definitely stress him out. That's a given. I'm sure he will be fine though, I drastically changed my chams cage two or three times already and I've had him a couple months, granted I gave him some time to settle in and I know this is still not advised but all in all I'm sure he will be fine.
I have a five month old give or take male panther chameleon.
He really has never used his tail to grab on to branches or really anything. I see him use it once in a great while but otherwise it just sticks straight outwards.
