He looks okay from what I can see. I would still try to get more pics if you can though, especially of the crooked casque.
You can probably let him eat a lot for a little while since he is new and WC (until he can go to the vet and get the all clear.) I wouldn't feed him tons of fatty bugs...
I would lower his highest temp to about 83-85 or so and see what happens. They open their mouths when they are basking if they are too warm (to try to cool down.)
Yes, restaurants and bakery's, as well as grocery stores (not egg flats, but pulp fruit thingies that are like big egg flats), often have them for free if you ask. Otherwise, eBay and bug/feeder sellers tend to have them.
350 (350 is 3/4 of a lb) is a pretty monstrous veiled. Anything from about 160-170+ is fine as long as he is healthy. I would say around 190-220 is average. 160-170 is a little on the small side, but they range quite a bit some times. Yours is still young and growing, so I expect he will be...
I've never had issues with them. I wont use branches that have bark or moss that just crumbles right off though. I'm afraid that it might crumble off into their eyes if they rub on them. I usually just wash the branches with water and make sure there are no bugs or anything nasty on it.
Sounds like you are doing well with him so far. If you follow the care sheet on here, you should do well with him.
Can you post some pictures of him so we can check to make sure he looks relatively heathy? The bent casque is probably fine, but it's best if we can see just to make sure or you...
Males are males are males. They will do all sorts of things sometimes. I once found my veiled (who escaped from his cage somehow) right as he started mounting my male panther (who was free ranging.) As I tried to get to them, my panther who is normally very laid back, started to turn red. This...
Every single area they could possibly go is not already a part of a territory of another. They can in fact get away from other chameleons if they need to. In a cage, the chameleons do not have the option of leaving. They are forced to stay within a certain area which can very well cause a great...
Mine was an emergency after hours deal which is why it costed so much. The place I go to costs a little more for exotics than some places (though not as much as others, one place was asking $140 just for the exam fee!) but they are really easy to work with and willing to go that extra mile to...
The pads are on the casque. There isn't actually a fat pad under the skin, but the pads certainly can get very fat if the chameleon is over fed. If you post some good pics of the face, casque, and body (including tail) members here can help you determine if he is underweight, fat, or within a...
Mantid Ooths
Hello guys! I am getting started a little late with mantids this year, but better late than never! I have Chinese mantid ooths available right now. Unfortunately, due to being very busy, I do not have any other bugs available (and probably wont for a while.)
Newly hatched mantids...
I have a chameleon that required a tongue amputation. They can do just fine as long as they can learn to eat and drink again. However, I would be worried about possible infection as well as his eyes. They are very sunken in, and the bad one looks like it very well could be infected. I would get...
Filling out the form would help us determine if it possibly has something to do with husbandry or if he is just on a hunger strike. A pic would help as well so we can see his size. If he is a nice big healthy 8 month old, 4 days is unlikely to hurt him.
He has some really nice color! It's neat to see them do some of the same things the big chameleons do.
Some of the little males get really pretty! I like to pick out the ones with bright green/yellow turrets as I have found they tend to have more bright green color.
Mine do fine. I generally feed them smaller than the space, but they don't really have issues eating the bigger stuff. I keep an eye on them to be safe though. My 1" dubia are much wider than that though, so I don't feed them dubia that size. If they catch a bug sideways, they just chew it until...
