You rock!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your dusky is beautiful! How did you end up with him? They're pretty hard to come by.
I have a female WC pionus, about 15 years old, and she's awesome. She's the first parrot I ever owned, and I got her because they are known to be a great parrot for beginners --...
Is he ready for larger crickets? That might save you some cash, although don't try to save money at the expense of your animal's health. On line is definitely the way to go, and keeping 500 - 1000 crickets is not tough at all.
I, on the other hand, would pay a lot of money to get my hands on some cb brevs. The problem? None here. So, I pay $20 or whatever per animal (plus $100 shipping) to get animals of whatever age, and whatever health I get. Sometimes they're the wrong sex, and maybe even the wrong species. I...
If you meant me, I wasn't being grumpy. Too me it's a moot point -- if it's stressing the cham, get it out, no matter what it is. I thought the mineral comment was way off the mark and I said so. Being matter of fact is not being grumpy. When I'm grumpy I don't post -- folks would know the...
I think they're smart enough to know the difference. I'm not sure biting real rocks would give them any minerals anyway. It just doesn't seem like a natural behaviour that would make any sense.
If it's stressing him out, then remove it -- a no brainer really. At best they're a crappy decoration that takes up space in the enclosure, at worst a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. Chameleons (for the most part) live in trees, not on the sides of waterfalls. You already started a...
If you have your enclosure well planted there will be lots of places for him to climb and grip. Tall plants, lots of vines. No need for shelves or other "decorations".
If you want a lizard you can handle more, I hear Bearded Dragons are really good about that. Totally different care and setup than a cham, of course. If you end up getting a chameleon, just realize it may be something that doesn't want to be handled, and you might end up with an animal that...
I always thought these were actual toads -- I'm glad I looked at your pics! Totally adorable little creatures, so I think I'm going to look into them a bit more. Thanks for sharing!
We also feed Repashy's, so that goes in a bowl, and when they get crickets they're just thrown in. They don't last very long! I haven't heard anything about a moist hide, and the breeders here don't use them. Maybe pm Syn -- she's pretty knowledgeable about all things gecko.
Cresties don't need moist hides, as they don't stay on the ground. They like plants, and like to hang out in the leaves, or the side of the enclosure. We put the food and water dishes on the bottom of the enclosure. Ours is planted, so on the soil. Hth.
One of my pygmy males has the most amazing yellow eye turrets (ok, not Panther amazing, but still ;)). Too bad I'm a lousy photography with a lousy camera. Oh well, I always enjoy the pics others send in.
