That's what I'm REALLY hoping. Like I said, we're always very attentive regarding his health anyways, so we're really keeping on top of it. I feel horrible even though it really wasn't an unsafe situation... I'm a wuss I guess so I cried about it kinda, haha... (don't make fun of me please :o)...
I'm sorry to hear about that :( hopefully, though, you've caught him early enough that some good supplimentation and a little bit of extra care will see him through it. I'm always terrified of it too, it seems like no matter how good care you take of them, the risk is there... :( I wish you the...
He is cute, but I'd definitely invest in a thermometer.
Sometimes chameleons are just quirky and they DO things that are unnatural... but... you want to make sure that he isn't doing it for another reason first. They really don't like being on the ground or having stuff touch their backs...
Well, the other day, Cricket took a fall. He was climbing on one of his various plants and decided to try and make a flying leap for a cord that was way out of his reach so he could climb somewhere else. I have fluffy blankets around all his plants just in case of something like this, but the...
A lot of reptiles do that to help regulate their body temperature. If it's happening occasionally it's no problem. If it's more often than that, it may be a little too warm for his liking in the cage. If he's gaping really widely or looks like he's breathiing hard it could be a respiratory...
I would definitely say to take him to a vet. Chameleons go downhill so quickly once something's wrong with them that unless you're insanely experienced (and even then, at times) you shouldn't try "fixing it yourself".
Cellphone on the other hand... I used to work for AT&T, so if he needs...
In chameleons, males will have a little "spur" on the back part of their hind feet. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the area where their genitals are is a little bit more of a lump in males, and flatter in females... males also have (usually) brighter colours, more pronounced skin patterning...
Thanks C_M ^_^ knowledge is power, as I always say :D
He is captive-bred and came from a place that I can trust to be honest about that, too. He's "bug-free" and we're careful to never expose him to anything that could give him parasites, so I think we're pretty safe that way.
I think I...
I'm sorry to hear that your chameleon passed away :( don't feel guilty... these things can happen sometimes :( if he died from a fall like that he maybe was sick already... you know how they can hide it really well until it's too late, so don't blame yourself.
If I could avoid having him on me so much, believe me, I would. I mean, I love to hold him and interact with him and stuff, but it can be quite inconvenient if all I'm trying to do is clean off a vine or something! And he can't climb my arms unless he digs his claws in really deep. I try to move...
This is kind of an off-the-wall sorta question.
I've mentioned before that Cricket likes to climb on me, for whatever reason. Well, as he's getting older, I've noticed that (obviously) his grip is getting stronger. This is great and all, but it's starting to be a problem for ME.
If I reach...
That's horrible :( sometimes, though, with proper care (and if caught in time) chams with MBD can make a turnaround and live a good life.
The store I deal with rescues neglected reptiles and has them treated and nursed back to health before selling them. I wish that there were more places...
Wow. That's absolutely ridiculous. Even if he never owned a chameleon, it's common sense that you don't go spraying chemicals into an enclosed space where there are animals! How incredibly ignorant. I hope your chams are okay.
It's good that you put a bucket of soil... she may need to lay eggs. Keep a close eye on her and try not to disturb her... I don't know all that much about egg-laying (my cham is a male) so maybe some of the other members can fill you in a bit more on the details... but I'd imagine that's what...
Awww what a cute little baby!
Mist 5-10 mins at least 3 times a day with warm water like they said. Make sure he is good and hydrated. Here are some warning signs if he is not getting enough water:
- His eyes may sink in
- Skin gets wrinkly
- May be duller in colour
- Acting apathetic...
Awww, that's cute!
If he's not sleeping well, make sure his cage cools down at least 10 degrees and is in a very dark and quiet area. ALSO... make sure there aren't a ton of crickets running around in the cage, they can bite your chameleon and keep him awake too. Remove any uneaten ones you...
LOL... oh man, Cricket does that all the time. It's a bit of a pain because normally I give the food dish a hot water rinse daily and would only do a boiling water sterilization once or twice a month, but it seems that I'm having to sterilize it every other day or so lately!
Cricket got out once and we found him chilling on top of a decorative rug we had hanging up on the wall. Turns out that the laundry basket was underneath it and positioned in just the right way for him to climb up a shirtsleeve, up the mountain of clothes, and onto the rug hanging from the wall.
