It sounds like the vet you went to was very misinformed. I would recommend looking for a new vet with actual chameleon experience. Perhaps send a PM to a more experienced chameleon owner from texas, such as "texas panther man" or "texas ranger" just to name a couple. These members have been...
Sounds to me like you are over watering it. I had the same problem when I first started, not having much experience with the plant/animal combo. If you are running a dripper and misting your cham, this should be enough to keep your plant thriving, I never deliberately water my plants anymore. I...
Hi there,
Welcome to the forums, I own both a panther and veiled chameleon and they both are wonderful animals, and they also have very similar care. You did right by yourself and future chameleon by researching first, that to often is not the case. Check out "jannb"s blog about veiled and...
I would recommend having a drainage system in place so there is no standing water in your cage ever. I posted this in another thread, but if you have an extra couple bucks lying around it's the perfect solution.
Replace the pvc panel at the bottom of your cage with light diffuser, and cover the...
I used to use dracaena plants in my enclosures, the problem with them is there is little to no horizontal walkways and to much foliage. They grow tall and the leave bush out from the stems. Schefflera's are a much better alternative.
I clean my cricket cage daily, if not they start to smell. Good upkeep keeps down the odor. I'm also a big fan of using dishes or makeshift dishes to hold food and what not, makes cleaning and replacing easier.
I always use a different variation, everytime I go grocery shopping I get different veggies, But here's how it breaks down:
I use Cricket Crack as a constant dry gutload and I use a variation of 5 different fresh veggies each week. I'll usually supply enough food to last my feeders for 3...
Light diffuser is a fluorescent light cover, it looks like a plastic grid with about half inch spacing. The picture is old and I've since upgraded but you get the idea. You can buy the stuff at home depot or lowes.
Buy an adjustable shelving unit that your cage can completely fit on, replace the PVC panel with light diffuser, and cover the light diffuser with aluminum screening so crickets can't escape. Have a shelf about 5-6 inches underneath the one your cage is on and use a plastic storage bin that has...
I don't really understand what you are describing, but you want to dust them so they are lightly coated, they SHOULDN'T look like ghosts. What I do is I have a cricket keeper and I take out a tube and knock as many feeders as I'm going to use in a cup ( I use an empty superworm cup because of...
First off i've kept herps for the past 10 years and have been fascinated with chameleons from the start. I didn't purchase my first chameleon until very recently though, mostly because of time and accesibility, but it's kind of a funny story none the less.
My wife and I finally had some time...
I feel ya, I live about a half hour from ontario and the weather is very similar. Today it is blazin hot but next week could be a flashback from winter, and the humidity is a killer. It's definetly harder to keep stable temps for the chams here.
I believe Hoehnelii would work for that size cage. TikiTiki has or had some CB babies for sale. I would say that your cage would be perfect for them since they are a relatively smaller species, although I myself have never kept them so maybe speak with someone who has on their specific space...
Set up looks cool, especially for a converted piece of furniture. I personally would be more worried about the internal lights though, and my chameleons ability to get to just about any place. so without an active barrier between him and the lights, I see it as burns waiting to happen. It almost...
Couple different options; I use the exoterra vines from petco on my enclosures, supplemented with some natural sticks. You can also buy plastic coated weather resistant wire from HD or lowes that's bendable, it's easy to manipulate but isn't as natural looking. Best bet though is to get some...
