You have to, it's the best way for your cham to get the most calcium and nutrition from his crickets. I suggest giving the gutloading care sheet a read.
None of my local super markets had a great variety of chameleon safe food that was organic. I live in a college town so organic stuff sells out fast. I did find some papaya and collard greens though but it's not organic can I still feed it to my Kaiju or crickets? Thanks!
That's great! Every cham is different my veiled loves to climb on me whenever he knows I'm going to go outside to water my plants. If you're able, you can grow a mulberry tree and they attract silkworms. :)
Take a look at the care sheets and they should answer every question you have :) Here's what my Veiled's enclosure looked like when he was a juvenile and that's the minimum in my opinion. He's getting a much taller and bigger one when he turns a 1yr in Sept.
Exactly ^^^^ also is that substrate at the bottom of the enclosure? I would get rid of that. Cham's do not need substrate I think sometimes they'll accidentally eat it when shooting for crickets and it's harmful
Jackson Chameleons are one of the harder species to care for. Always do extensive research before purchasing any animal especially a cham. I'm glad you're on the right path now. Take a look at the care sheets and always do more research!
Also veiled are usually the more reclusive cham. They're more of a viewing pet and should only be handled when necessary, like when you're doing a deep cleaning of his enclosure or when you're taking him outside for some Sun. Start cup feeding him and then work your way up to hand feeding him...
Live plants are essential in any cham enclosure also, your cage should be significantly taller than it is wide. I recommend a hibiscus plant, pothos, or umbrella. Or all three with sturdy bamboo sticks thrown in there. But a full hibiscus should be enough. Chams go darker when they want to soak...
Also just don't even ask the guys at PetCo anything about chameleons or crickets. If they try and give you advice just ignore them and direct them to this website so they can be well informed. Amazon is your best friend! Also if you're a student Prime is free for 6 months!
Your cage needs to be taller, width is ok but the length definetly needs to be higher. Also hibiscus plant! They're very inexpensive right now! I just bought a really beautiful full one for $19 at my local husbandry. :)
I lost him for a few days when he was a baby and he had a pretty nasty gash on his leg I'll try and find the post :) and thank you! He's very spoiled lol
My advice do the shower technique on your cham. Put them on a new plant in the shower, aim the shower head at the wall so a gentle warm water falls on them, and sit with your cham monitoring him hopefully it'll clean out whatever may be on him. Also I'd just clean out his entire enclosure and...
