My baby veiled I had several years ago escaped his cage when I was at work. I tore the bedroom apart looking for him and finally found him staring at me while sitting on top of a hanger in the closet.
When he got bigger I let him free range since there were no animals or kids around to hurt...
I can't wait until my girl opens up a little. Poor thing is still shy but doing much better. I suppose I wouldn't be too happy if I was shipped from FL to WA either. :p
This is my first female too so I will be right there with you on worrying about eggs before too long.
Does this CFL issue apply in all cases, or only with certain bulbs intended to provide UVB?
For example, is a 6700k CFL intended to assist with plant growth safe? I currently use one as I had read that other keepers use these, but I am perfectly open to switching to linear if you feel that...
I've personally only bought things from multiple sources, but the best "complete" kits I'm aware of are sold here:

Note that you will need more cover for your cham, and you will need to...
I second the above. JannB is very knowledgeable and helpful.
You are correct that there is no way they are as old as you were told. My first cham was that tiny when I got him - I would suggest setting up enclosures for them that aren't too tall if you haven't done so already. That way they...
Thank you both! She really is so adorable. I've missed having a cham.
She seems to be acclimating well so far, she ate a few half-size crickets and I saw her bask and drink. I never had an animal shipped before so it had me pretty worried.
Luckily our winters aren't bad out here, especially compared to the east coast! Nonetheless it is quickly getting too cool outside to be comfortable for the cham.
I am so excited to have just received my new baby girl today! She came all the way across the country from Dez on the forum. More and better pictures will be coming, but I want to let her settle in. This girl has no name yet as I want to get to know her personality first. These little guys are...
As the member above stated, live plants will help keep humidity up. The mistking systems are great if you can afford the investment as well.
One cost-effective method to keep water in the cage longer is covering the sides with shower curtain. This thread includes a few different methods forum...
You don't want any lights on at night, as they will keep the chameleon awake. You also want to be sure that there is a temperature drop at night, so unless your house gets below 60ish degrees F at night (the caresheet says even as low as 50 is safe actually) you should not direct any additional...
I would try to get one in the 2-3 foot range and then prune as needed to fit it in the cage. Did you check at the stores or just call? I ask because I first called my local Home Depot and they said they only had schefflera that were 1ft tall and they didn't have any ficus. I went over anyway and...
Thanks very much for the quick response. Yes, Seattle has great temps most of the year. Right now it's starting to get a bit cold overnight, but nonetheless I have been thinking that the temps are perfect most of the time. I've been very excited to start keeping chams here since I moved from...
I'll be getting my female veiled in a few weeks and I intend to let her sun out on the balcony every day since I work at home. This is the first time I have lived somewhere that I feel safe doing this (no cats will make it up here), so I am just wondering how long others allow their chams to sun...
They need heat to breed, around 90 degrees F. It's actually one of the advantages of this feeder: escapees aren't going to breed unless it's really hot where you live constantly.
Here's a thread with some heating suggestions: https://www.chameleonforums.com/dubia-colony-heating-108821/
