I don't trust to leave mine outside unnatended due to things like birds, cats and bastard children. Usually my chams get 3-4 hour sessions of sunglight while sitting in a ficus tree. I'll put a dozen silks throughout the tree to keep them occupied.
The instant UV light hits the reflector it is no longer usable to your chameleon. If you are concerned about illuminating your cage, then a reflector may help, but it is by no means a neccesity and will not aid your chameleon in any way.
Chameleons do not eat fruit in the wild. They do not have the ability to process the high sugar content. Continuing to feed fruits will most likely damage the good bacteria present in a chams digestive system.
I realize that as chameleon keepers we're all constantly learning, but come on...
While this would theoretically work, the main reason you don't see setups like this is the duration of watering and the amount of water needed. With a fine mist pump and nozzle type setup, I can run 6 nozzles for a total of 5 hours and only pump 5 gallons of water. For the setup that you're...
IMO, the urates are beggining to look clumpy which can be a result of dehydration, along with the orangish spots. A dripper and a humidifier are not acceptable means of keeping a chameleon hydrated. Misting is mandatory. You should be misting for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, preferrably in...
Fruit flies would be much to small for your chameleon. If you get ahold of some flightless house flies however, let us know as I'm sure a few members would be interested.
If your chameleon eats plants, do NOT use schefflera.
Toxic: Saponins, Falcarinol, Calcium oxalate, Oxalic acid
Clinical Signs: Dermatitis, Vomiting, Leukopenia, Loss of coordination, Irritation of mouth, lips, and tongue
I gotta say, the whole concept of a members photo contest is entirely wasted when all the members can't compete. If I submitted a photo and it was removed before other members could vote on it, I would be extremely upset. Letting a judge pick out photos would turn this from a contest into a...
Spider mites drink the sap from plants, so I doubt that is what you are dealing with. Most likely bird or rodent mites. They are attracted to moisture and humidity.
Brad,
I understand what you're trying to accomplish, as everyone votes for themselves in the near 1:1 ratio. However, I wonder if limiting the entries is the solution. You can't predict the amount of votes ahead of time and you can't choose certain entrees to remove without being unfair...
I remember back in grade school one of our teachers had a jackson's in the back of the room. Aside from the horrible care it recieved, one thing that I vividly remember is the lack of respect students had for it. They would shake it's cage, yank it right off the branches and even spit on...
Never more than once a week and only to give them sun and clean cages. Chameleons should NOT be handled, they are a hands-off pet. While many people here will tell you "oh my cham loves to be handled", they are delusional... handling a cham will subject it to unnescesary stress so if you care...
We're having a severe heat wvae up here in the northeast. I turn my heatlamps on for an hour or so in the mornings to give them time to warm up, and then again before the lights go off to dry the cages out.
I've been using WER gutload for almost a year now and I really think that it makes a big difference in the nutritional content of the crickets. They live longer and appear fatter now than they did when I was using cruddy ESU gutload. I provide moisture exclusively with collard greens. A 5lb...
Personally, I think it is poor advice to tell a new chameleon owner anything other than to NOT touch their chameleon. Regardless of a keepers anthropomorphisized opinion on how their chameleon learned to trust them, the reality of it is that it will cause them stress. Stress needs to be...
I purchase my silkworms from http://www.mulberryfarms.com I've been mixing WER gutload in with my chow to raise the nutrition level. It raises the potential for mold though, so I keep it refridgerated until use, and only feed what can be consumed in 24hours at a time.
