hello all,
I am having my chameleon shipped to me next week. I have almost all of my supplies ready to go but am considering getting a misting system as well. I understand that there are issues with the timer on some of the misting systems and was wondering if a digital timer could be used...
Lovely leachie! I just got my first a few months ago and he is a tiny guy compared to yours (he was 12g when I got him and is now up to 42g). They are such interesting creatures. My husband calls ours a "wrinkly booger" lol.
Hello all,
I went shopping today and picked up some organic veggies to make a large batch of gut load to use with superworms, roaches, and crickets (in addition to a quality dry formula). I'd like your opinions on what I purchased and what I can add when I make up the next batch. Also...
Thanks! I'm also looking into raising land snails, but apparently it is hard to find a breeder in my state lol. I originally thought about green banana roaches, but read that they tend to fly and not have enough meat on them to do much good.
Good question. I know that many people recommended that I get the kind for gardening to use with my colony... They just told me to avoid any that had fertilizer in them. I am not sure if there are other differences.
Thanks.
I was thinking supers because they are easier to raise... From what I've found online, the hornworms / silks have to either eat pre-made chow or mulberry leaves and I'd have to buy the chow. I have not been able to find a reasonable price for it online though. I was figuring the...
I know a lot of people that bought from him when he still ran Genesis Exotics. I have purchased 1 culture of springtails and isopods from him when he ran that site. I failed horribly with the springtails, but that was more down to me not knowing what to do, than anything related to his site /...
Hello all,
I've done a little more digging on my feeding plan and have decided that I will be adding super worms (in addition to dubia) as a staple and hornworms / silks as a treat. That said, I know variety is a good thing and I've found a couple roach species with care very similar to my...
I would get a reptile heat mat (I use the ultratherm ones) and put one on the side of the tub (outside) and control it with a cheap t-stat like a hydrofarm to raise the temps next to the egg flats to around 90f or a little higher.
I would also suggest washing your produce VERY well. I buy...
nightanole- Thank you for your advice. I would rather it be weaker and not harmful, than too much exposure which might cause harm. I appreciate your input. I do not have a meter at this point, so I would not be able to monitor the bulb's output.
Check out petco's shipping policy. near Christmas, I ordered the largest exo they have (36x18x36) which was on sale for $200 and they had free shipping... You had to provide your phone number so the local freight guy could call when he was going to deliver it, but otherwise, a nice transaction...
Hello all,
After reading the care sheets on this forum, I ordered most of the supplies for my veiled chameleon setup. I found a good deal on a lighting fixture on ebay (holds 2, T5HO 22" 24 watt bulbs) and purchased a reptisun T5HO 5.0 bulb from petco. I also ordered my cage from that site...
I'd suggest starting with some adults, but also get a LOT of large or extra large nymphs and some assorted sizes as well. It took my colony a full 6-8 months to produce enough for me to feed off of and I still think it needs to be larger a year later. I started with just a few adults and some...
Bush baby- Thanks! I was thinking of ordering some helix snails, if I can find any. We don't have large outdoor snails here, at least that I've ever seen. I have a blue tongue skink too, so I'm sure he would adore getting fresh snails. I used to keep aquatic snails (mystery snails) when I...
I'm considering using helix snails as one of my 3-4 staple feeders and wanted input on whether this would be a good idea. The other primary feeders I am going to be using will be dubia, superworms, and either silkies or hornworms.
I'd appreciate your feedback on amount of these guys I'd expect...
Hello all,
I am experimenting with my setup and checking the running temps / humidity levels before I bring home my first chameleon. I am pretty sure that I will be ordering a juvie (~3 mo) veiled, but haven't ruled out a panther of the same age yet.
I've done a good bit of reading and have...
Graves- Thank you for your reply and the photo of your boy.
I am planning on having everything set up and running for at least a couple weeks before ordering, so that I can monitor temps and humidity.
Do you remember about what size your boy was when you got him? (length or weight)? I have...
