I assume you are using a dome? Probably a cheapo from the Dept. store? Buy a good 1 ;) A regular house hold bulb will work. I like the color of the blue tinted reptile bulbs. All fixtures get hot....... But good 1's dont melt wires:rolleyes:
Yes very true. You have seen my new cage. I did quite a bit of design work before building. Having a solid top, (no screen)and mounting the hood smack in the middle, this gives him the option of being up in the top part where its warm.. but sitting just a few inches off to the side he is out of...
The question I keep asking and no one seems to know is.....How much is too much??? I go from what people test outdoors with thier meter. Chams spend hours in direct sun which can read very High. I hear 200's in the shade and your cham would have to be real close to the 12% bulb to reach that...
As mentioned above......only feed smaller 1's. I keep my super worms in Super Chow. Its made by the Cricket Crack people.;) Sandra has FANTABULOUS gut load formulas.... I just cant find all that stuff near me:o
As long as you cant pull pieces of it off with your fingers it should be ok, if you clean it often. I tryed the Moss Mat..... had to pull a hunk of it outta my panthers butt!!..... It imediately went in the trash!!!
Where in Wisc are you? Dave
My cham really likes his T5 12% bulb! 1 of his favorite hangouts reads 108 on my Solar Meter. He seems much more active since he doesnt have to spend most of the day trying to soak up the measly UV he was getting from the lesser bulbs.;)
Im useing the Arcadia T5 12% and my panther cham loves it! 1 of his favorite basking spots reads 108 on my solar meter. Thats still only about half of what can be reached in the shade outside on a sunny day;)
Are these indoor or outdoor enclosures?Your going to have bugs everywhere if you go hardware cloth on the sides unless you cup feed;) I would go black aluminium screen all round & hrdwr cloth on top to reduce UV blockage You can put packaging tape around the top edges of the cloth top to keep...
Yes... the Arcadias can last a year or more. Also the Zoo Med can last longer than 6 months....... But it is recommended to replace at 6 months to be safe. The real truth is...... A Solar meter is a REQUIRED cham keeping tool, in my opinion;) Some new bulbs can be very weak and you could...
Yes I have read the threads & yes its funny how people react to a post at times:D the original question was did they need a starter for that hood? NOPE! Its built in and im sure the ballast is T5 HO. And the Arcadia bulbs can last MUCH longer than your Zoo Med or Exo Terra;)
OK..... so in your opinion what is too much? Readings in the shade can be in the 200's. I was pointing out that hood is capable of useing any T5 ho bulb;)
