I’ll go thru your husbandry. I am working and can get called away at any time, but will get back to this as able. :) Depending on how busy it gets, it might take me all night though. 😄
Hi and welcome. It sounds like you have a screw in uvb bulb. Those are basically worthless for chameleons and probably most other animals. What you need is to toss that and get a linear T5HO fixture with either an Arcadia 6% or ReptiSun 5.0 uvb bulb. Avoid knock off brands - they are not...
You could check on her in a couple of days on Monday or Tuesday…see how she is and ask about her vet visit. The answers and how they’re given would probably be telling.
Interesting question that while I don’t have an answer for, I do have more questions about it. Was there a sign saying she wasn’t for sale? If someone walked up and wanted to buy her, would they have sold her in such condition and if so, would they have said anything about her being sick? In the...
At times, even the very best of breeders can have parasites sneak in, same as can happen to any one of us keepers. Unless a big part of the picture is missing, such as your chameleon having been born with some sort of physiological defect, parasites would be my primary suspect.
I usually go by casque size and pattern developement with male veileds. Your sweetie has a shorter casque from his mbd and already has his beautiful patterns well in place, so he is at least 5-6 months old, if not older.
I’m really looking forward to his full recovery and how his gorgeous...
Poor sweetheart. 🥺 From what you say about your husbandry, I only see a few suspects. The first is has he ever been tested for parasites? They are more common than we’d like to think. Before putting in your plants, did you wash/rinse them of any possible chemical fertilizer or pesticide? Did...
This is why I pretty much use only silkworms (and hornworms) for hand feeding. But, ‘hand feeding’ doesn’t necessarily have to be done with a literal hand imho. For the squirmier feeders like bsfl and wax worms, I put them in a small shallow cup which I hold out. It’s much much safer than using...
@LizardLurkin this definitely made me think of Spooble and his wonky eye, so I’m super glad that you’ve shared here. Both fellas are gorgeous, otherwise seem healthy and are well loved and cared for. I think all either of you can do is monitor and get veterinary care as needed. Oh…and don’t...
While it’s an inevitable fact that we outlive our dogs, and I’ve somehow known that it would happen this year, losing my sweet Beastie isn’t made any easier. This past Tuesday, 7/22 I had to send my old boy over the rainbow bridge. Although he he had several health issues - Cushing’s disease...
I would highly recommend a reputable breeder. You may pay a little bit more, but the after-purchase support is worth its weight in gold. There are several who sponsor the forum who have beautiful, and more importantly, healthy chameleons and have proven their excellent reputations...
Hi and welcome! :) I too highly recommend Neptune’s kit. If bought separately, not only will you be paying more, but will probably have to go to different sources for everything, which is a pain in the butt (plus shipping fees). The advanced kit is well worth the cost, as you’ll eventually be...
The best way for me to answer is…
My somewhat average sized, but broad lady hand for scale. This was my boy Hammlet fully grown. He was a tad chunky at 160 Gm. The guy I have now, Lucky, was about 175 Gm when I got him and was almost emaciated. He is much larger than Hammlet was, perhaps...
Your care all sounds perfect to me. How long ago did you stop all bee pollen? Maybe he did/hurt something or something got stuck when he was rubbing his eyes. Maybe if they’ve always looked like this, it’s just the way he is. If it isn’t bothering him, just be aware and look for any...
Usually by about 10-12 months old, your veiled will be fully grown and you need to cut back on feeding to about 3-5 feeders every other day or even 3 days a week. Don’t forget that this doesn’t include the occasional treat. All of mine are fully mature and I feed them this amount (the girls get...
