My fingernails are pretty short, it really did not seem he was after those. He was aiming to the middle of my fingertips. He hardly even really seemed to take time to aim. Almost like he just expected the worm to be there and went for it. Sometimes he rethinks it and looks for the worm...
I mist 3 times a day. Used to be 45 seconds long (its more a wide spray than a mist, so it drenches the place in that time) but since he seems to drink more with the dripper I've cut back to 30 seconds with hand spraying extra while shedding. Humidity is usually around 55 but drops to 45...
Is there a lone vitamin A? I thought all his vitamin needs were taken care of in the herptivite. Also I've been gut loading with carrots and greens in addition to dry cricket feed. Still, maybe not enough, so please let me know how to supplement vitamin A properly!
Another update, its clear he is only having issues with my fingertips. He is definitely not missing crickets, flies, or waxworms placed on leaves. But when I offer a waxworm on my palm, he goes for my fingertips.
Hi,
I dust all crickets every day with rep-cal calcium powder no d3. On sunday they get dusted with herptivite vitamins. Maybe once per month I dust on sunday with rep-cal calcium d3. Other insects I have not been dusting. I feed about 15-20 crickets daily, and flies or BSF as they emerge...
So now, 20 minutes after my post, He's hunting low in his cage and hanging by his tail. He's actively moving around and seems anything but weak. Theres 2 fresh poops, no urates to be found so far... several BSFlies have emerged and he seems to be nailing those no problem. I think this guy...
I've been in and out of concern about Norman lately. Appetite is alway good, but little things have been nagging me and then he does something to make me feel better, then something nags again. He seems somehow less...stable...I guess, on his branches than he used to. More wobbly or unsure of...
My chams name is Norman. I had several others in mind, including Gollum, Sid (Vicious), Goblin...but my teen daughter rolled her eyes at all of them and said, can't you just name him something normal? So he became Norman.
So I've been feeding my guy blue bottle fly larvae and BSF larvae along with his crickets this past month, but having bought a cup of 250 of each there plenty that got around to pupating and now Norman's been enjoying a daily treat of 3-8 adult flies (so kind of them to emerge a few at a time...
I think it may have a lot to do with many people detesting insects and probably chose the crested due to the insect- less diet that was advertised. I can tell you my daughter was one of those. She hates crickets. Thankfully she hates the fact her gecko is not growing even more.
Thank you . I have read over all you linked to. The cat one was disturbing. I wonder if I missed how the cat got to the chameleon? I wasn't clear on if the cat was able to get inside the screen somehow? Something about arger mesh I remember reading about. I have small mesh, but I can see...
I was only half kidding...I'm willing to do anything at this point to make him feel less wanderlust! My cats had previously just liked to observe, now they are being tempted into a frenzy. Its not good :(
Thanks for the info. We're going to work on rectifying the situation. He is not our first reptile, but he is our first crested, and we were definitely accepting the info spooned to us. Not knowing what was normal put us at a very big disadvantage in realizing we had a problem. He was sold...
Believe it or not, there is a lot of information out there that says "gecko diet" only is better. I'm happy to offer crickets. Had to convince my daughter that live food was not bad. I hate being misinformed. Working on rectifying now. Poor baby.
I'm feeling like maybe he's no longer happy about his environment. Maybe the cats have been getting too close for comfort, or I'm bothering him too often, and he wants to move out. Maybe he wants a taller house.
I'm only concerned because it seems...pathological, restless. Its repetitive...like he climbs the same front corner just to get to a place in the back he could have gotten to in two steps just by turning around from his original position, then crawls to the front and repeats the same behavior...
