I’m kinda confused by this question honestly. Chameleons will usually way crickets that are “too small” anyways so I am confused. I also don’t know what you mean by “instar”??
I wouldn’t recommend feeding that many. Hornworms are an occasional “treat”. They are hydrating but are not a staple food source with much nutrition. I would do once a week.
I just recommend as many real plants as possible. Add vines and branches in all different directions so they can get around. I have pothos and umbrella plants.
So as far as colors and patterns go this is what I know:
chameleons get darker when they are trying to absorb more light
They get dark spots or stripes when they feel threatened or alarmed. (With contrast to their basic green color)
And greys or different shades of green mixed in with their...
First thing is I DO NOT recommend handling him right off the bat. Getting used to a new environment and enclosure is enough stress so the added stress is not good. I wouldn’t worry about the weight as long as he is eating. My veiled will randomly grow overnight it seems and he eats about the...
Mine is in my bedroom near the window. I close the blinds at night and open them during the day. He seems to enjoy looking outside and the natural sung light helps the plants out a lot. That’s what works best for me but there are other options too. I would not recommend a closet however...
Like someone said, everything would need to be “baby” proofed. Electrical cords, etc. I would not recommend this but if your up for it and have the space then go for it. There would need to be lotsss of plants and vines in order for him/ her to get around. What are you doing about the lighting??
When they are very small I recommend the wingless fruit flies. You can also try the very small crickets and see if they take to those. They can be slightly dusted in the calcium powder without D3 5 to 6 days a week.
Mine has not done this before but he will get close on the sides. He shouldn’t get burned but maybe move the lights up a little bit. That’s what I did with two wooden blocks. It has seemed to really help. I have heard of other methods too.
I would not recommend handling him and give him time to settle in at his own pace. These are all normal behaviors and over time he will get more comfortable with you. Just try to leave him alone for now because even being in a new enclosure and environment is enough stress alone. I think you are...
Hi, my little guy has brown outlines around his crest and down his spine. I’m afraid he is getting burned by getting too close to the heat lamp. I have tried to put blocks under but he proceeds to climb up the wire to get even closer. I will attatch some pictures.
