    Lacey Act Amendments

Don’t Panic! (In big red letters on the cover) We tend to be a hair-trigger society now a days. Something comes along we haven’t researched or read, but we saw some guy do a video somewhere. Now his opinion is ours. Its the Republicans, the Democrats, the Liberals, et. al. Grab a glass of wine...

    Feeder or no feeder?

i posted this somewhere else a couple weeks back. I just picked up a 4" plant holder you can screw into a post. I glued it to the side of my enclosure (or, you can use a magnet on the outside). It holds those plastic containers you get soup in (or can buy almost anywhere). You can change cup...

Hangin, chillin, and eating out of house and home...

Sort of... Son wanted a title, as we decided all chameleons should have one. I initially suggested 'Lord Protector Pinky Carruthers' (there's an obscure Sci-Fi pop reference for ya). He wanted Fucifer and suggested 'Camo Expert Fucifer'. Which led, eventually, after a 30 minute car...

Hangin, chillin, and eating out of house and home...

So, Special Agent Fucifer Pardalis enters into his second month. He's got quite a concise schedule - up at 8, bask till 8:30, eat at 9, bask till noon, chill in plants till bed. We have 2 molts so far (just finishing second). Still takes from hand (when offered) and eating like a baby elephant...

    Breeder

Just picked up a panther from Chi-Town Chameleons in Illinois. Excellent communication and top notch experience. Comparatively inexpensive, excellent packaging, 30 day health guarantee.

Fighting low humidity again! Please help!

FYI, I was encountering some humidity concerns as we have baseboard heat and the mister/fogger combo wasn't really cutting it. Enclosure was at 25-30% during the day and 40-50% at night with considerable fogging. Picked us a Vornado Element A2 humidifier. Holds 2 gallons, programmable for...

    Scared chameleon

I picked up or guy a week or two back and initially he was very calm. He climbed right out of shipping container to my arm and climbed up to my shoulder to chill. We introduced him to his cage and he was very cool. We don't handle him, but I could present him with a hornworm in my fingers and he...

    New Enclosure Build Design

2x2 seems fairly standard and you've already got the screens for it. Via your plan, why not make the top portion of the cage a frame based around the ZooMed? It's flimsy, but the screens are OK and the frame is a good starting template. I'd incorporate the screens you have (and probably the full...

If power out and in NJ...

We're doing OK in Central/South Jersey. I have a generator if anyone needs to borrow to keep enclosures/tanks going. Open for any animal needs. I have it for my reef tanks and its posted in NJ Reefers as well as a lender for emergencies.

Can you keep a chameleon in an RV?

Was planning on recommending standing the RV on end for more vertical climbing room and ensuring you have enough plants inside...

    Fogger recommendations?

The fogger (cool mist humidifier) I picked up is small capacity and runs through over half its fill with a 4 hour mist on low. It also needs its full canister to be removed to be refilled and I'm questioning its actual effectiveness as my early (5-6am) humidity is much lower than I'd like. Any...

A neat, compact, LED/T5UV unit by ZooMed (yep)

The lights seem to be adequate, granted there is supplemental light in the room. But the live plants all seem to be happy, its nice and bright above the canopy, and the colorations in the cage look good… P.S. SAFP is basking just under his light at the top after stuffing himself stupid with 1...

I think it might be time for Groot to rest in peace.

Hoping I don’t get slammed and kicked out for this. First, fish that are passing are oft eaten alive by other tank animals. A humane way to treat them is to isolate them in a smaller tank or container and move it to a dark setting for a couple hours for the fish to relax. Every 30 minutes or so...

A neat, compact, LED/T5UV unit by ZooMed (yep)

Doc is correct on the cords. jp - The red LEDs for supplemental growth are tiny, they may have some benefit but I see them more as a mild color popper for the plants. They’re only 1/2 watt each. Same with the blues, supplemental at 1/2w each. Levels are so low they’re more there to say they’re...

    UV LED's with Chams?

Thats an interesting thought. My main reef is full T5 (I went back from Hydras), but my fragger has the Red Sea’s over it, which have a UV channel. I’ll do a solarmeter check for UV levels when I get in later.

Red and blue LEDs are on a 3 position toggle switch with the whites, options are: White only Colored LEDs only Both The colored LEDs are minor and used to supplement growth, moonlight, and ‘pop’, They can simply be left off so you’re running the whites only. The T5 also has a separate switch.
