+1 on tough love. With raising dubias had to transition my guy away from the crickets.
We went on a hunger strike for 3-4 days and eventually gave in.
Now its dubias with the occasional cricket/horn/super.
Hi all.
I know chams are generally creatures of habit but we know they love hitting up foliage outside of their cages.
Having found my escapee 15' from his cage exploring makes me wonder if anyone changes up their cage decor on any regular basis and how does the Cham react?
Great ideas folks, and thanks for the advice.
Ryan, we're a stones throw away. We used to live in Point on 35 near the Ark but Sandy got us.
We're up the road in Brick now near the hospital.
So, I decided that as my monster is going through a buck in crickets a day, I'd switch over to dubia roaches as his primary and raise them myself.
My supplies:
A 12 gallon black tote with a yellow lid from the orange box store (with 4 2" vent holes on the sides covered by metal screen repair...
I started a few months back and went with a Mist King and a fogger.
3 side solid cage, 1 mesh side, 2x2x6, room humidity is pretty good as we have a whole home humidifier setup.
Run the MK at 8pm (just before lights off), midnight, 4am, 8am (just before lights on), and 8:30am (just after lights...
That’s Special Agent Furcifer P, just thought Waldo was appropriate for the title.
He heads to the feeder around 8am. I got caught up and didn’t make it over to feed him till around 9.
I’m guessing he got a bit fed up and decided to push open the cage and take a wander while waiting.
That one is fine. Been using it for reef tank related items for years and have only lost 23 fish.
No, seriously, its fine. Just give it a few days to ensure its fully cured.
Roger that with the Neosporin sans pain relief.
And really like the idea with the 1/2 inch trellis.
Sorry to post a redundant question, I did look through a few of the previous posts but didn't read anything specifically addressing the problem prophylactically.
Thanks all.
HI folks. Sooooo, my dude occasionally does the hanging on the screen deal, but he's gotten quite big, quite quickly.
He did a bit of a swing down and took a fall.
Fortunately I have a ton of plants so no damage done there.
I did notice that he left a nail behind in the screen, and it looks like...
Coming from the reef aquarium hobby into chams.
Ran some extensive tests on home made pump setups, Tunze, Mags, Fluvals, etc... including using brass heads from an outdoor misting system, some irrigation heads, and more.
I ordered a mist king for comparisons with intention to return it based on...
But, my advice all round is https://dubiaroaches.com
EXCELLENT customer service. They overstock the shipment by at least 10%. DOAs are near zero.
Here's my order I received today medium hornworms ($5) and 100+ small/med roaches ($15), add $7 for shipping and not bad for approx $25 (it arrived...
So, we finished a big shed a couple days back and now have some color coming in (green, red, orange).
But, over the past few days he's eating more than my 10yo and 6yo kids.
Example - This morning: 6 small/medium crickets, 2 medium roaches, 1 large hornworm, then 2 more roaches, and now hanging...
I'm not the OP. Just mentioning it was a good thought for the OP to check the caps were off.
As a side note I have this as a pet peeve with pens. Most don't realize that brand new pens oft have a small ball of plastic on the tip needing removal.
The new sytem I bought a few weeks back is probably different from Klyde's as 38039 in the new manual is internet marketing stuff.
In the new manual, pg 43, Q9 replies ...'we only opted to use the lowest flow nozzles available, basically setting our starting point at extrememly fine mist...To...
Curious.
I did some cage work today while he sat in his basking spot and watched.
When done, his plants were replaced in a different way.
He purposely came down to the floor, wandered around between everything, looked at the pots, climbed on em a bit.
The he went back up to his chill out spot...
