    Chameleon Sitter Thread

So, Monsterzero's post had me thinking that it might be an idea to have a post that lists the location of anyone willing to help cover cham care while owner is indisposed. I'm part of a reefeing group that has this, and its nice to know that there's always some coverage and help around in case...

    Cham sitting (SF Bay Area)???

There should be a list on the site for things like this. We do it in a reef forum I'm in, though its a bit easier as its a NJ specific club. Good luck with the search.

    Food size

Odd question, I know. With feeding my guy crickets, various worms, etc, size was never a concern, as all were small to medium sized. I'm now feeding (very well fed) dubias as a primary, and I'm farming them. I find myself atm at an in-between. I have large 'thumb-sized' roaches, and small...

My first post! Getting my first chameleon on Saturday! Last minute questions...

I know there's a ton of breeders out there and I'm sure you can get some great advice from the folks here on the good breeders and the ones to be wary of. I personally researched what I wanted first (juvenile male ybbb panther), then went to recommended breeders until I found one. I ended up...

    please help - wood lice!!

Are you stuck on the branches thing? For $30-50 you can hit Lowes of Home Depot for some common (safe) live plants, then just use a few branches or fake vines scattered about. Looks great and your bud will have plenty of hiding and hi ting space.

    please help - wood lice!!

If you've got a Harbor Freight near you you can pick up a heat gun for $17 and you can also download a 20% off coupon from their website (bringing the price down to, er, 17/20, er, no, 20x100x17, no, 17x100/20, no, err, 20x17, yeah that's it), so that brings the price down by an additional $340...

    Poor aim - gettin lazy?

There are 2x 1w red bulbs up there in a LED grow fixture for the plants, which he is directly under in that pic. They're not that powerful, but he does have a lot of red/orange facial colors they're accentuating. Heat lamp is white light at approx 83. EDIT: LOOKS LIKE TONGUE DAMAGE :( I held a...

    Poor aim - gettin lazy?

Bulb is an Arcadia 6%, 5mos old. Daily dust is the Flukers Ca without D3. Bi-week is the Flukers Reptile Vitamin with Beta Carotene. And here’s a few pics (just finished a shed):

Thanks for all the input and advice. Will fill in details and get a few pics tonight or tomorrow morning.

    Poor aim - gettin lazy?

Interesting. I haven't seen any indication of injury but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll use them all and if no improvement I'll drag him hissing to the vet. Wouldn't hurt to have a checkup anyways.

    Poor aim - gettin lazy?

So, SAFP has gotten to the point where he couldn't hit the side of his enclosure from an inch away. His aim is terrible. I've read about the deficiencies, in particular B and Ca, but he's pretty healthy. UV is good, gut loaded dubia and crickets, free flying black flies, and the occasional...

    Star Wars Cham

So my son has a large AT-AT. He’s lost the guns from the ‘head’ area. Its parked next to the TV tonight. Made me laugh so I took a pic.

    Is my upgraded lighting okay?

Reef keeper and cham keeper here as well. Agreed - 3x 6500 and a 6% UV That actinic is pushing the spectrum way over to the blue side, probably around 450nm or so,I'd pull it out sooner than later.

    Black flies

I see there have been a few oosts in the past regarding this type situation, but thought I’d make a short theead instead of raising a zombie. I sorta forgot about my black fly larvae and, in passing this morning, I saw they we now full fledged flies. Opened the container in the enclosure and...

I now know the answer to, 'Do chameleon bites hurt?'

And that answer is yes, very, very much. What happened: Superworm time and I was hand feeding. I held the worm out to him and he missed x3 (we have an appointment with the optometrist next week). I decided to place the worm in my palm. He walked right over balanced on the edge of my hand and...

MIST KING HAS NEXT TO NO PRESSURE?

Might be the spray heads are clogged. If they have a small mineral build up they can get clogged and the back pressure will slow or stop the pump. I would: Remove one of the spray heads and run the pump (aim the tube nito a bucket), if it fires water the head is the problem. If no water, either...

    Biden's bulb ban

There were big discussions in various reef forums last year when this was just starting up, as loads of reef owners, myself included, use T5's and other specialty bulbs. In one of the forums someone dropped a link (I'll see if I can find it) that stated that specialty bulbs, such as those used...

Would prefer not to repeat this...

So, my panther is starting to mellow out a bit and accept me, so much so that he now approaches my hand and takes food directly in his mouth. He also gets excited every couple of days for the occasional hornworm or superworm. I've been gorging the hornworms the past few days and they're so fat...
