anyone know if they really are irradiated or just hard to breed? ive heard they dont get irradiated and that their dietary needs for breeding are unknown?
I read silkworms prefer white mulberry. This would only be a problem if you try to switch them to silkworm chow or to red or black mulberry. Ive heard of red white and black mulberry but not paper mulberry. it'd be interesting to see if they preferred the white over paper. it's great you can...
just wanted to update. after talking to the breeder she is a virgin and she started self-ovulating so an honest mistake. no problems other than a little stress and taking a little extra time going to the UPS center, but i think everyone here expects that dealing with chams :) i could keep her...
well we are lucky in that we have access to x-ray machines at the hospital my girlfriend works at and her boss thinks all the chams are cute. we cant print them but we can look at them on the computer screens.
More i think about it though why would a big name breeder with many years experience...
i will keep in contact with the breeder and see what he says. just a little disappointing having to wait for her to lay these infertile eggs and then have to wait again to breed her. the breeder never said anything about her being gravid but ill assume the best and assume he didn't know. i will...
well we found out what it is. we took some xrays of her and she is gravid and with a lot of eggs. i counted at least 35 individual eggs most likey more since the bottom quarter of her was just a large blob on the screen. there are so many in her so they are pushing out her pads in that area. do...
it could be possible she has a small nonviable clutch i cant feel any eggs. she is around 6 months old i believe not showing receptive or non-receptive colors just plain reddish brown. i'll keep her in the bucket for now.
thanks again
barely able to keep her from moving to get some pics, but i did get some better ones. i have placed her in a laying container just in case.
jeweledchameleon she is 84 grams 11" total 5.5" SVL.
hope this helps.
wow that was a lot of responses thanks guys!
i guess i shouldve put some more information in my OP.
she comes from a very reputable breeder i think they post on these forums actually. she is a virgin female and she definately is not gravid, she is just a very big girl lol.
i was thinking the...
just received a new female chameleon yesterday. she is huge and looks and behaves great, but she seems to have some swelling around her hind quarters.
wondering if anyone has seen something like this before... i was told this could be due to inactivity during shipping and will go away after 1...
i just didnt like all the run off water, dead crickets, smell, dirt, clogs and the constant hassle of dumping it out. i was going to make a gravity runoff trough for all my cages. then i got the timer keeps my chams hydrated with nice fat pads and barely any water on the bottom of the cage. :)
it doesn't drench anything so i wouldn't call it wet. keeps nice sized droplets on the leaves. it usually dries completely depending on the outdoor temps, usually the hotter and dryer it is the faster it evaporates. depending on the cage design i try to keep the mist to one side to keep one side...
usually the fully adult, huge (1.5" and up) supers have the hard exoskelton. younger supers (1.5" and less) usually seem to be a lot softer and moister. making sure the supers have lots of veggies to get hydrated on is important too. i like to pick out the newly molted white worms and give them...
cross breeding will always be a hot topic until when or if panthers get scientifically classified into different species or sub-species according to locale. i don't know too much about genetics but there is a certain degree of physical attributes, behavior and gene % difference needed to become...
