There is just no way I could give them all the care and space they would need with 200 little ones. Just no way...
More power to you, if you can! That would take it from the realm of labor of love to labor 24/7 for me. I would lose what's left of my mind.
And there is always the possibility that pigs will fly, but don't count on me buying a pig poo protective poncho (P4) anytime soon. LOL
In all seriousness though, I am not sure I could feel comfortable risking the safety of my Chams on the basis of relying on something from there, given their...
I have tried to tell several people exactly this, but they never seem to believe me. I guess they can understand it for humans, but not their Chameleons. They usually end up doing the "I will ask around until I get an answer that I like or an answer that is in line with what I want to believe...
Saying you have had ONE cham and just got another, then claiming you know more about proper care than those with decades of experience doesn't lend credibility to what you say, I am sorry to tell you.
Not being rude, but please realize that as far as knowledge and experience, it's impossible to...
I wonder if they have to climb a plant and hang for their wings to correctly fill out, like butterflies do. Not sure it matters in our use for them, and considering the small areas we plan to keep them in.
I have my frog setup on a 5' counter. I can simply take the airline from my sponge filter, which I cut long to accommodate exactly this function, and create a siphon which I can then just put the end of the tubing into my sink drain. That way I can easily change water without disturbing anybody...
Great looking sire. I hope you find homes for those you are looking to move. I know what it's like to worry about room as a clutch starts growing up, for sure!
"introduced via the pet trade to the US states of California"...this made me laugh, honestly. I read it as "united states of California". LOL
I was like, "I just knew this would happen eventually! Now to convince NYC to do the same!" heh
I wasn't having issues, I just see this asked almost daily by new keepers and it made me try, albeit fairly unsuccessfully, to put together some thoughts. LOL
Regardless, thank you for the responses
Yes, I wasn't going to get into the whole "calcefidiol / calcitriol" cycle thing. I was really trying to get into the head of new keepers and imagine how they thought.
Sorry for any confusion.
I see questions constantly, usually from new keepers, about how much calcium they should be dusting feeders with, how often, and the like.
What I almost never see, is someone explaining how correct lighting ties into the calcium intake level. (There are a few who are always trying to do this...
Welcome to the Forum, and congrats on caring enough about your new chameleon to try to do right by them.
A good place to start your reading is here.
Start reading all of the general husbandry docs and the care sheet for veiled chameleons. That should give you the basics, and there are lots of...
