It's complete! I love it and I think Leif does too! I'm waiting for a new Y connector for my monsoon mister, but otherwise it's done. I made some vines too, by braiding dollar store boot laces with some floral wire, then coating in silicone and coco fiber. Way cheaper than the pet store option...
Nice wood! Did you find it or buy it? I live near the beach and people around here really charge way too much for driftwood. But it's illegal to take from most beaches sooo?♀️
Allllrighty then. I've spent the last few days foaming, carving, siliconing and substrating (cool word, bruh) the background. This has been a real labor of love. Emphasis on labor. I'm actually really liking how it looks so far. I think next time I'll try something other than expanding foam...
As far as chams go, Trioceros melleri(they just look like little tree triceratops to me, so cool!) is high on my wish list. And I LOVE carpet chameleons but I'm not ready for the inevitable heartbreak caused by their short lifespan :(
I installed the substrate box today. The cabinet itself is coated at the bottom with 2 thick layers of flex seal. Then I laid pond liner on the bottom and 3 inches up the sides and back and stapled it in around the top edge. Then I installed the 4 side panels, each coated on all sides with flex...

I'm converting an armoire into a bioactive viv for my male ambilobe. I'm just about at the point of installing the substrate box and I'm wondering what the sweet spot is for depth? I'm aiming fo 9" deep in total, which after the false bottom/drainage layer leaves ~7" for the actual substrate...
Bummer! I had the same problem finding a piece deep enough. Finally found an armoire...maybe if you're handy you could get a wardrobe or armoire and cut the top off? Since they're usually a large open space up top and cabinets or drawers down below. Trying to think outside the box! Or ikea?
Would a TV stand/entertainment center work? Maybe even the lower portion of a 2 piece china hutch? I know it varies from region to region but my local FB marketplace is a treasure trove of furniture!
Ok so I'm using this thread mostly to document my progress, but maybe itll be helpful to someone in the future?♀️ so far I removed the shelf and the spindles (it's a surprisingly well made piece of furniture so it took some elbow grease) i lightly sanded then wiped down the entire inside. The...
